Author's Note: This takes place when Spot was a girl so please don't send reviews telling me Spot was a boy. I claim no ownership of Star Trek or its characters.
Spot jumped into Data's lap. He began petting her gently. He looked at Spot for a while and a single thought was stuck in his head. He began to wonder if Spot needed a female companion to accompany her.
When Data went to do his duties, this thought continued to stay in his mind. He didn't let the thought affect his duties, but he continued to consider getting another cat. He decided the best course of action was to ask for advice.
"Geordi, do you think I should get another cat?" Data asked Geordi.
"That depends. Why do you want another cat?"
"I am worried that Spot might be lonely. I believe another cat will keep her company and make her life more pleasurable."
"Well that is plenty of reason to get a cat, Data. I think you should try at least and see how it goes. Just don't over do it. I believe two cats is enough."
Data nodded and went to ask Counselor Troi.
"I hear what you are saying Data and I think you should consider how Spot feels. Maybe she is happy with just you. It may be possible that she won't like it if you get another cat." Counselor Troi told him.
"I see. Perhaps I will study Spot more closely before I make my decision."
Data watched Spot intently for the next few days trying to determine if Spot was happy with how things are. She showed no sign of displeasure. Still, Data couldn't help but think she would be more happy with a companion. Still unsure of his decision he decided to ask Worf.
"I am not very fond with animals. I think one is enough." Worf told him.
After hearing that, Data briefly wondered if another cat was a bad idea. He went to Ten Forward. Guinan noticed that something was occupying his mind and decided to go and talk to him.
"What's on your mind?" Guinan asked Data.
"I have been wondering if I should get another cat." Data told her.
"Do you want another cat?"
"I cannot feel the desire to get another cat. I merely *want* another cat to keep Spot company."
"Well, it is your decision, Data. You should do what you think is the right thing to do."
Data put a lot of thought into it and decided to get another cat. They reached a starbase and Data went to adopt a cat. He carefully picked a black and white cat with a short bushy tail.
He took the cat back to his quarters and introduced the cat to Spot. Spot immediately hissed and his hair stood up. The other cat hissed as well and struggled in Data's arms to try and fight Spot.
Data tried keeping them near each other hoping they would get used to one another, but they seemed only to get angrier at one another and tried to fight each other. Data held them back so they couldn't fight.
He tried keeping the new cat for a few more days, but every time he turned his back the cats would start fighting. They fought over everything especially the food, water, and territory. They even began peeing all over the quarters marking territory. They even managed to scratch each other real bad forcing Data to take them to Sick Bay. It happened so much that it got in the way of his duties. Finally, after two weeks, he decided to get rid of the new cat.
Before he left, Data held the new cat tightly in his arms and looked at Spot clearly disappointed, "I do not understand. Spot you have never soon any aversion to other cats. I thought you would be happy."
Spot simply hissed at the new cat one more time before Data took it away. He was clearly upset that she and Spot didn't get along.
