A/N: This takes place somewhere in season one, just to avoid confusion.
Aang looked over at Katara. She was so beautiful, stuffing her face with chocolate and smacking Sokka with a broom.. Wait, why is she doing that? He walked closer, and heard,
"So what if it's a full moon? You don't have to tell everyone! Now they're hailing me and giving me chocolate so I don't murder them! They think I'm going to murder them with my waterbending!" Katara yells. Oh. They're at a Christmas party, and everyone seemed to be scared of Katara. At least now he knew why. He looked over and saw that Katara and Sokka were heading back to the main room of the party. He followed.
They nibbled on some food and talked, but Aang realized tension was growing because of the previous argument. They should probably be leaving soon.
"Well, we'd better be leaving soon, before it get's too dark," he says, edging towards the door.
"Oh, no, you can't!" one of the swamp people said. "Look at that snowstorm!" Aang peered outside, and realized snow was coming down faster than Katara or Aang could bend away. They were stuck here for the night, possibly longer. He yawned, and realized it must be late into the night by now.
"Uh, where could I sleep?" he said, hoping it wasn't the floor.
"Oh, right this way," another swamp person said, leading them up a small staircase. They followed until they ended up in a small room. Inside it was a small table, a bed, and a small pile of hay on the floor. The room was lit by a small candle, flickering and leaving an orange glow on everything. Aang, Sokka, and Katara entered the room. "You sweet couple will share the bed," she said, pointing to Aang and Katara, "and you'll sleep on that hay," she finished, leaving Sokka grumbling about 'back issues'. Aang looked at Katara, blushing.
"Oh, uh, we're not a couple," Katara said.
"Yeah, um, just friends," Aang added, burning a deep crimson by now.
"Well, too bad, there are no other beds," the swamp woman said, winking. Aang was sure he had seen multiple empty beds before. But he wasn't about to complain, he thought, glancing at Katara. They crawled in bed, awkwardly trying to stay on the opposite side of one another. Aang was sweating nervously, Katara was too.
"Hi," Katara said.
"Uh, hello" Aang replied, staring into those deep, blue, eyes.
"We didn't really get a chance to talk during the party," Katara said.
"That's true, we didn't," Aang replied, silently hoping for a romantic discussion.
"So, we should be off tomorrow," Katara said.
"Yeah, the snowstorm should be calm enough by then," Aang said. He needed to push this conversation in a different direction. "You looked really nice today," he said.
"I wore my same casual clothes as every day," she said. "... But thanks." Aang cracked a smile. It's working.
"Oh, it looked like you did something with your hair," he said, pointing.
"Yeah, I did actually!" she said, indicating with her finger to her braided hair loopies.
"Well, it looks beautiful," he said. They inched closer to each other. Katara went even more crimson than Aang.
"Thank you," she said. They leaned in, and Aang knew this was his time to shine.
"I love you Katara," he said, hoping this wasn't a big mistake. Katara was taken by surprise, but soon said softly,
"I love you too, Aang," The closed in for a kiss, and-
"Guys, I can hear everything you're saying! Just, please don't!" Sokka said from his pile of hay. Aang blushed ten shades deeper, he and Katara rolling over. In the now awkward silence, they went to sleep, bitter disappointment in both of them.
