Chasing Cars
Zatanna sat on the rooftop of some random building in Gotham City. She had asked to be alone. She didn't want to see her friends with their sad faces, telling her everything would be alright. Instead, she preferred the sound of cars racing on the avenue below. She grabbed her Iphone and purple earphones from her pocket and hit play. Not bothering to choose a song.
We'll do it all
Everything
On our own
She listened carefully to every word that was said. She almost slapped herself for not bothering to choose a song. She had this thing about not changing the song before it was over, so now she listened. The memories of her father creeping from the back of her mind.
We don't need
Anything
Or anyone
"I do" Was all that came to her mind.
From a slight distance, Robin watched her. He hadn't meant to find her but she was sitting in his favourite patrol spot. He slightly contemplated whether or not to engage in conversation. He knew she needed time but he also knew he could provide a certain comfort.
"Mind if I join you?" He asked, tapping her shoulder.
Her teary blue eyes stared up at him in surprise before smiling and handing him one of her earphones.
Those three words
Are said too much
They're not enough
Robin notice the tears coming down again. He put an arm around her shoulder pulling her towards him. She accepted without thought, placing her head on his chest.
Let's waste time
Chasing cars
Around our heads
Robin let out a slight smirk. He figured his teary friend needed a slight distraction from the previous events.
Zatanna had eventually become quiet. She then lifted herself off Robin and stared at the ground. She could feel the boy's gaze upon her.
If I lay here
If I just lay here
Would lie with me and just forget the world?
Robin smiled as she whispered that last verse. "Yes, I would." He whispered back.
Zatanna looked at him slightly confused and then smiled.
"Come." He said, standing and holding out a hand for her.
"Where?"
"Chase a few cars, maybe." He smirked.
Zatanna smiled again and held on to him, before jumping off the rooftop.
