In the darkness of night, a husband and his wife appeared out of what seemed to be thin air, just outside the little village of Hogsmeade. They had been holding on to each other tight so that they could apparate together. The fact that they had already reached their destination seemed not to bother either of the star-crossed lovers.
Remus was tall and thin. He looked like a man that was far older than he. His face was sunken and had worry etched deeply into it. The worry of not fitting in. Of not being liked because of what he was. Of her saying no. Of Teddy being like him, and being rejected by society because of it. Alas, none of these things meant anything now. Soon all that him and the other members of the Order of the Phoenix would be in the battle of their lives against the most powerful dark wizard of all time.
He bent down and wiped a stray strand of shocking pink hair from Tonk's face. It was obvious to him that she was thinking the same as he was, that this could very well be the last time that they had together. He took her hand and led her towards the school. He knew the silence would not last long.
No, there would be a great battle tonight. It would be worth it though. Every drop of blood spilled and life lost meant safety and security for all. Parents would not have to worry about danger and death looming just out of sight, waiting for them and their children. Teddy would be able to be loved and cared for, something that Remus Lupin had craved when he was growing up.
Tonks, it seemed, sensed his discomfort and stopped walking. She looked into his gray eyes, the precise shade that hers now were. She kissed him gently. Remus gladly returned the favor. When they were done, they just stood in each others arms, anticipating the battle to begin, underneath the innocent sky.
