Author's note: This is a one-shot fic dedicated to Ebisu (Konohamaru's tutor) or better known as the 'Closet Pervert'. The reason why I wrote this is because I couldn't even find one fic based on Ebisu and since he's one of my favorite characters, it's a real disappointment .. Anyways, basically what's happened in the story is that Ebisu gets caught in a fight he can't win and reminisces about the past. Kinda of OOC and AU..kinda, but a good kinda ^.^. Anyways, enjoy.
Disclaimer: I do not own any of the Naru- I'm assuming you've read enough of these and get the drift.

"Heh, so this is the strength of Konoha's finest. Pathetic! I can't believe I was raised in such a weak village."
A missing-nin stood in front of a beaten Ebisu, who was laying against a tree, breathing hard. His dark circular glasses were cracked and he had wounds that can't be described with only words. Both shinobis knew it and both couldn't deny it either. Ebisu was going to die.
(If the italize thing doesn't work, just know that anything in '~' means it's a thought)
~ ..No...this, this can't be the end. Not now. Not here....I still, still have to...~
Ebisu couldn't finish his thought process. The missing-nin picked him up by the collar. No matter how hard he tried, Ebisu couldn't free himself of the enemies grasp.
"No...please..."
The missing-nin took out a kunai from his pouch. He held it up to Ebisu's throat, drawing more blood from the special jounin. Amused at the current situation, the missing-nin spit out siliva onto the jounin's tired face.
"What's the matter, jounin? Disappointed? Disgraced? Are you shamed at the fact you got beaten by a puny, weak chuunin like me? Did you really expect me to be the same, to be weak after all this time?" spat the missing-nin.
~ He's...he's right. How could I have lost to a person like him? A traitor? This wasn't even my mission....
-Flashback-
Ebisu was running through the forest after successfully completing a mission. Normally he'd be in the village, but due to the current happenings (Orichimaru, the Sand, etc.) it wouldn't be possible. The village needed everyone possible.
Ebisu suddenly stopped in his tracks. 'What's this energy?' he thought to himself. He followed the path of the energy and soon found himself in a bush, looking at the back of another person.'....I know him. He's the missing chuunin that hasn't been found yet...Maybe....yes, I'll fight him. He can't be that strong....after all...he is only a chuunin...."
Ebisu soon realized he was dead wrong and it was a mistake to fight in the first place...
-End Flashback-
I'm such a baka. How could a shinobi like me, 'respected' by others, fall into this trap? Heh, respected, that's a good one. The villagers and other shinobi...they do respect me, but it's not real. It's what Uzamaki says, 'closet pervert'. It's the convetional wisdom of every villager probably.Except....Konohamaru.
Yes, Konohamaru. The Hokage's grandson, my pupil. He acted as he hated me,anyone would have believed it. But...I saw right through his act. I could see it in his eyes.He had the eyes of a true warrior, the eyes of the next Hokage....unlike most of the other shinobi.Despite what Uzamaki had always called me, Konohamaru had spent too much time with me to believe his word.
Uzumaki Naruto...he was another pupil of mine.He too...had the spirit of the next Hokage. He'll make a fine shinobi someday, as Konohamaru. I had trained both of them with the best of my ability. With that, those two will have their wishes. Konohamaru will be well-known, not for being the third's grandson, but for being great. And Uzamaki, he'll be recognized by those who wronged him, and those who've never heard of them.
And yet....not one of them had ever said of a word of thank you. Heh, I can't blame them though...They'll be absorbed by the other villagers and start to share the same thinking as the others. The village my respect me, but they don't mean it.I can see into their eyes and into their hearts. The only reason why they respect me is because I'm the 'great' tutor. Supposedly a very strong shinobi, known to teach possible canditates for Hokage. But, if they had their way, the respect I had once cherished would die away. I don't even want to think of their possible actions. To them...I'm just a closet pervert.~
Ebisu, for the last time looked into the eyes of the murderer...what cold eyes, he thought. The missing-nin smirked and threw Ebisu into an eternal sleep.

Konohamaru looked at the stone memorial. A memorial with many new, engraved names. The names of the great. The names of those who've died.
~It's been ten years since the end of the war...So many people who I didn't know died. But...I knew one of them. Ebisu-sensei...you...you weren't supposed to die!~
Tears started streaming down Konohamaru's face. "Why! Why did you try to take on the missing-nin..."
-Flashback-
Ten years before
Konohamaru was in his grandfather's office when three Leaf-nins came in.
"Hokage-sama! My team and I were scouting the area when we found the missing-nin. We took care of him but..."
"Yes?" asked the Hokage.
"We also found the dead body of the Leaf's tutor, Ebisu. He must've found the missing-nin and decided to take him on..."
"NANI!?" shouted Konohamaru.
-End Flashback_
Konohamaru started to choke on his tears. "Ebisu-sensei...."
~When I heard that you died...I couldn't believe it...I didn't want to believe it.Only because I always thought you were one of the strongest. You always looked out for me, always did what you thought was best. Naruto...remember him? He's the one who started the closet pervert thing. He's the reason why everyone never really liked you or saw who you really were. But..he's become a great ninja. Just like you told me. You said that both Naruto and I would become great. You were right. I just wish...~
The tears came more rapidly as Konohamaru sobbed onto the stone.
Hours passed as Konohamaru dried his tears. He stood up and started to head for home. He took one last glance at Ebisu's name.
"Ebisu-sensei.....Thank you."
