Dragon Shadow
If someone told you that my life was normal, that I lived in a normal house, and had normal parents, and that I had normal friends... Well they would be right till they got to that part about my house and parents. See my mom died when I was 5 and I don't know my father very well. See he's a pilot and is never home and when he does come home we don't even talk. If we do talk, I call him Sam some times, that's his name Sam Heart. My name is Gwen, Gwendolyn Hearts, but I like Gwen better I'm about 5'8 5'9, I have red hair, green eyes, and for some reason I can't really remember anything about my past except my mom, that always struck me as odd. My dad comes home every 2 weeks and if he even comes home I don't get to see him, he comes home at night. And in the morning I always get 200 dollars that he leaves me so that I won't starve. But how can I starve when Misses Tiller gives me food every day that could feed an army for a year. She's a widow and still feeds herself like if she was cooking for 5 people. She's a kind old lady and never would do anyone harm. I mean she won't even hurt a bee if it stung her. I made a hole in my door next to my mail so that I can get the food from her before my friends dog get at it first. My friends understand my problem with my dad; my boy friend is more then understanding about everything. He knows what it's like to be hated by your father; my boyfriend's name is Tom, Thomas Ben Jams. He's 6'2 and has the coolest brown hair and also the coolest brown eyes as well. For some strange reason likes me more then I thought a guy like him would. When I first met him, it was like I already new him. I mean I kind of knew every thing about him, and I don't know why. Well I thought I knew every thing about my life, or what I thought my life was till I met the new teacher that had come to my school...
The bell for lunch rang and all of the 9th grade students came out to talk and see what was new in that school, all the preps and the cool people if you want to call them that sat in the first table in the lunchroom. The nerds/smart people all sat in the back where they knew they couldn't get picked on. And I guess you could call us the neutral people; we sat in the middle next to the big pillar that stood in the middle of the lunchroom. The news was the same everyday, this girl did that, this girl did this, and did you see that fight. But coming from the preps and nerd tables today was all about one person...
"Hey Tom, Kim, Mike. What's going on?" Gwen said sitting next to Thomas putting her bag next to her set and pulling out her lunch from the bag. "Nothing... did you hear about that new teacher in history?" Kim said looking over at Gwen who was sitting across from her. "What new teacher?" Gwen said taking a bite out of her sandwich. "I didn't hear anything about a new teacher till now... how is it everyone knows about these things but me? What's his name?" "It's Mr. Merlin." Thomas said looking over to her resting his head on her shoulder. "He's known to be a real pain in the a$$." Thomas said with no energy as he took a long sigh and reached over to take a bite out of Gwen's sandwich.
"How do you know that, Thomas? I mean you don't even know him, No one knows him, and He's new to all of us here." Kim said as if she likes the guy and was trying to help him. "Well I don't know him but he sounds like an a$$ to me." Mike said as he took out his drink to wash down his pizza. "Well I wanna meet him." Gwen said shocking everyone at the table. "I wanna see why everyone wants to say he's bad or he's an a$$ and stuff like that." Gwen looked over to see Thomas, Mike and Kim all starring her down Thomas looking up still leaning on her shoulder looking somewhat puzzled "Are you nuts Gwen?" Kim asked braking into all the silent staring, "Why do you wanna met a guy that everyone thinks is weird?" Kim said now in even more shock, even though she was the one helping the teacher in the first place.
"Well if I didn't want to meet people just because everyone says he's weird, I wouldn't have met you Kim." Gwen said with a smile as Kim slid back in her set in almost an embarrassing shock. Everyone laughing at Kim's blushing cheeks as Kim just looked down knowing it was a joke just not thinking of something good to say back, Gwen took a sip from Mike's drink and started again "But really I think it's cool having a new teacher in this dumb school I mean come on, everyone here is BORING!!! Come on do you think he could be that bad?" she posed to see what they would say. Not a word was said from any of them, there facieses told it all. "What class does he have now?" Gwen said looking at all of them.
"History," Thomas posed, "Yah I think its history I don't know for sure though." Mike said sadly as if he was about to fall asleep, "Why so sad about it Mike?" Kim asked putting her hand on his arm almost in a sarcastic manner. "I hate new teachers; they make everything new and odd, they just treat you like babies." Mike went to take another sip out of his drink when Kim pushed his arm making it go up all in his face as if to answer his comment causing it to get all over his face and shirt. The group laughed and ate their sandwiches for the last few minutes they had left and then the bell rang for their next block. Thomas got up first and waved bye to Kim and Mike who headed for the door. Gwen got up next and walked over to Thomas just making his way out the lunchroom.
"So Thomas, I'll see you at history alright? I have to go to my locker and get my dragon book back to the school library." Gwen said heading away from Thomas, but quickly he grabbed her arm softly to turn her around. "Why are you always getting those dragon books Gwen?" Thomas said looking in her eyes making a slight smile off his lips. "Because, I think dragons are cool." She turned to look at him face to face matching his look in everyway. "Haven't you seen my room? It's covered in dragons! Dragon paintings, dragon pictures, and dragon status..." she was cut off short by Thomas putting his fingers to her lips. "Yah, yah I've seen it. But still I can't understand why you like them so much. You almost seem as if you like them more then you like me" Thomas said pulling her closer to him. "I like them but not that much, I just like them a lot I guess. It's weird, I just feel like if they are a part of me you know?" Gwen said looking right into his big drown eyes, he looked away a second then turned back to answer, "No, no I don't." Thomas said as he smiled. Gwen laughed and looked at Thomas just smiling at her. Thomas pulled her in and kissed her lips softly. He slowly pulled away to look at Gwen once more. Gwen smiled and kissed him once more quickly and turned and walked to her locker as he smiled and walked to his next class. But they didn't walk more then 5 steps without looking back at each other and smile once again.
A few minutes later the classes had started and Gwen ran into the classroom not even a minute after the bell had rang. She looked around to see if her new Teacher was looking, he had his back to the students and she ran to her seat without making a sound. When she got in her seat he turned around and she was surprised to see that her teacher looked younger then she thought he would be. Gwen thought he would be like 50 or 40 like most teachers at her school, but he looked as if 20 not even that.
"Hello everyone, my name is Mr. Merlin and I'm your new teacher. Now I know I'm new and everyone wants to make a fool out of me, but guess what? I want to see if you can. Now I'm telling you it's not going to be easy," he said as he went to sit down and switched seats with the chair next to him. The chair he was about to sit in had stick glue all over it. "See you guys think you can trick me, your wrong. I'm not going to be easy to trick." He smiled and sat down. As the kids were sighing and awing from him finding there trap, Thomas and Gwen were taking about what they would do for the rest of the day as Mr. Merlin took roll.
"Now if I call your name answer. And if I call someone's name and their not here tell me." He looked at the list and began reading the names in ABC order. "Jack Conman?" "Here." "Amber Elgin?" "Here" she yelled as if she was trying to get the other end of the school to hear her. "Thank you very much Miss Elgin, I know now how to make sure you're here." The class laughed as she seemed to get smaller and smaller in her seat as he went back calling names. "Sammy Grin?" "Here," "Gwendolyn Heart?"
"Gwen!" She said looking over at him with glaring eyes. "I'm sorry what?" Mr. Merlin put down that list of names and looked over at her with his green eyes shining through his brown hair. "My name is Gwen Heart." She said giving him the same look she gave him before. "You got it wrong." He looked at the list and then looked back at her. "But the list said Gwendolyn Heart." "Well I don't like that so it's Gwen ok?" Gwen said almost yelling it. "Yes I'm sorry I'll call you Gwen for now on." When Merlin looked back at the list he smiled weirdly at Gwen then went back to calling names. Thomas wanted to know something that somewhat bothered him.
"Why did you do that? You could have told him in a nicer way. I mean come on everyone messes up on your name the first time." He said trying to make sure he didn't get caught by Mr. Merlin. "I know Thomas but I just can't stand that name." She turned around and looked at Mr. Merlin as he was taking role still. As Thomas sat back in his seat there was a smile so big on his face no one knew what for. "Okay," Mr. Merlin started out. "Today we are going to talk about my favorite thing in the whole world.... dragons and the Knights of the medieval times..." Gwen sat up in her seat as fast as she could. "Does anyone know anything about dragons or knights in here?" Gwen raised her hand up faster then anyone in the class. "Yes Gwendol.... Gwen?" Mr. Merlin stopped him self as fast as he could, "I know a little about both." Gwen said. Thomas almost laughed out loud for he knew "A LITLE" was an understatement on Gwen's behalf. Mr. Merlin smiled, "Would you like to tell what you know?" Gwen grinned, "Sure."
For half the class time Gwen raised her hand and answered most of the questions that were asked. At the end off the day Thomas wanted to know what she thought of the new teacher. But as he walked up to her his question was answered, as he walked up to her she was already talking about the new teacher Mr. Merlin the whole time. "I mean it he was like the coolest teacher we've had all year it was so cool having some one who likes dragons just as much as I do." Gwen said with a big smile on her face. "I see you liked him then!" Thomas said weirdly. "Thomas... I don't like him like him. It's just cool having someone else who likes dragons too." Thomas seemed puzzled, "I like them just...." He was cut off by Gwen, "NOT as much as I do." Thomas raised one eyebrow then laughed in his throat, "Well hey I didn't really come over here to hear about Mr. Merlin, I wanted to know if you wanted to come over to my place Friday night?
"Yah I'd love to, but it's like 5 days away from now, its Monday silly." Gwen smiled matching his look, "But yah I would love to come but I'll have to tell Misses Tiller not to make me any food for that night." They both laughed "So I'll see you then?" Thomas asking walking over to her pulling her to him, "Yes you will see me but at what time?" Gwen said looking into Thomas's eyes stopping what his mind was thinking on. "Hmm come at about 4 ok?" "Then at 4 I shall see you." Gwen said pulling back almost to walk away but Thomas pulled her in again and gave her a kiss this time he held longer then before. They pulled away slowly and smiled and went on their ways home Gwen going right Thomas going left.
Days went by and it was finally Friday. Gwen and Mr. Merlin were good friends now, and they even talked after school about what they knew about the Medieval Times. Gwen was in Mr. Merlin's classroom helping him put away work that the other students have given him. Gwen was more and more interested about what Mr. Merlin knew about dragons, and she wanted to know where he learned all of this information. What school he had to go to too get all this information and if she could maybe one day go and get the same thing. But by the time she would probably get there she would out smart them. All these thought ran through her head every time she talked to Mr. Merlin so she finally had to ask.
"Mr. Merlin? How do you know so much about dragons? It was like you were born with them or something." Gwen said with a kidding grin "But everyone knows you're not that old!" Mr. Merlin laughed but he looked somewhat nervous, "Hah Not really I'm not that old at all." Gwen laughed but Merlin still looked nervous when he said that. "So how do you know so much?" Gwen looked at her work she was helping Mr. Merlin put away in his desk next to his notebook. Mr. Merlin looked down for a second then looked back at Gwen who wasn't hard to see with her bright red shirt on and blue jeans. His big green eyes shone out over his brown hair that almost covering his face completely, his hair and eyes went well with his dark navy blue shirt and jeans. He looked at Gwen but as he did his hair got in his face he pushed it aside and answered "I'll tell you soon. But right now, don't you have to get going? I thought you had a date with Thomas Jams?" Mr. Merlin said with a smile on his face. Gwen looked puzzled, "How did you know about that?" His eyes widened as he turned to the black board, but then he made a slight grin and looked over his shoulder, "News travels fast in schools you know." "Yes I guess it does. "Gwen said looking at his desk. "Well Mr. Merlin I'll talk to you later, well on Monday that is." Gwen smiled and grabbed her black backpack by the handle that had silver duck-tape on it that she made look very creative with flames that she drew on there with a black sharpie marker. "It was nice having this talk with you Gwen." Mr. Merlin said as he turned around. "Bye then" Gwen said heading out the door but not without turning to get the last say. "'Till next time," She smiled and walked out. Mr. Merlin smiled as she walked out but when he knew he couldn't see her anymore his smile left and turned to a sad worry. "If only the next time would be just as pleasant my dear Gwendolyn." Mr. Merlin said aloud looking down at his desk and then back to where he saw Gwen last. "If only."
