Chapter the First
Everyone always thought that the Cheshires were idiots who only spoke nonsense. The verses of their songs made no sense.
I agreed with everyone else, but a few years ago, a philosopher told our queen, Queen Erika of Hearts, what the words to the song meant.
Queen Erika told the people of Wonderland that it was about the first warrior of Wonderland, Luke Dragpin. He killed the Jabberwock, to honor Erika's mother, the Queen of Hearts (her name was Queen).
Several books were written about this, by the philosopher and a few others. The books were in the royal library, including several other libraries and shops.
The royal library was only open to servants and other workers in the castle, and, of course, the royal family (which consisted of the queen, her dying father, and her younger cousin). I constantly went into the library to read.
My name is Nessa Foxtree and I'm a maid in the castle. I never knew my father, and I lost my mother and the rest of my family in a fire when I was younger.
I always read the books about the Cheshires and their song.
'And has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms my beamish boy!Oh frabjous day!
Calooh, Calay!He chortled his joy!'
That's one of their verses.
It's about Luke's father praising him for killing the Jabberwock.
I wish I could meet a Cheshire. Luke was the first person to ever meet a Cheshire.
The second person to ever meet a Cheshire was Alice Liddell (some consider her Wonderland's second warrior, some the first messenger).
They were both greeted by the same Cheshire. Their leader, Cheshire Cat.
After that second encounter different Cheshires started greeting more people. But, I wasn't one of them. It was said that it was good luck to meet a Cheshire.
I suppose meeting Queen Erika would be lucky as well, but had never experienced that either.
