Naruto stares at the tootsie pop, feeling his heartbeat speed up in excitement.
Today is the day.
He unwraps the covering, staring almost reverently at the piece of candy that will hold the answer to his question. It has cost him over 200 ryous, the little blob of stuff, but to him, this is worth it. Never once has he thought of the trickery of the commercial creators, but instead, of the problem that they present, and of the alluring quality of said problem.
He watches the sun reflect off the hard ruby surface of the candy, the light rebounding and twisting into wonderful patterns. Unconsciously, he leans his face towards the treat, sapphire eyes narrowing, curious and inquisitive as to how this tiny amount of treasure can possibly hold the answer to the words that are in his mind.
He sticks out his tongue and tentatively places it on the tootsie pop. Lick.
Meanwhile, walking by, a certain Uchiha swallows hard, refraining from using his mouth, both for commenting and for…
…stuff.
Naruto draws his tongue away into the cavern of his mouth, savoring the sweet taste of the candy.
The Uchiha stops, and now makes his way towards the oblivious blond, almost as if in a trance. Naruto leans forward once again, and his tongue sticks out…
…the Uchiha will refrain from thinking from this point onward.
Lick.
…the Uchiha, for the first time in his hate-filled life, wishes to become that lucky inhuman object Naruto is holding oh-so-carefully in his hands.
Uzumaki Naruto, for the second time, draws his tongue back into his mouth, still ignorant of the Uchiha, who is currently using all of his strength to refrain from drooling.
The third lick is about to proceed……..
……and the Uchiha, sanity snapping, breaks the loving embrace between the blonde's tongue and the candy.
"That," the Uchiha hisses. "Does not deserve this."
And he does some very naughty 'stuff'.
Poor Naruto, reflecting back on his day in his bed at night, suddenly remembers something. Something he will never forgive himself for.
"How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?"
