Your Love Alone Is Not Enough

Tears streamed down Lily's face at Petunia's earlier words. How could her sister be so cruel? Lily didn't choose to be magic, and for Petunia not to be. So why was she feeling so guilty?

"Freak!" Petunia hissed at Lily, keeping her voice low so her parents didn't overhear the exchange.

"Tuney, Please…", Lily pleaded, "Don't be like this."

"Like what? I'm just saying what everyone thinks. You're a freak and I'm glad you're leaving" Petunia replied nastily.

"You didn't think witches were freaks when you wrote to Dumbledore…" Lily retorted.

Why did I bring up the letter, Lily thought to herself, staring out the window of the Hogwarts Express, watching the fields fly past. Why did I tell her we'd seen it….maybe that's why she said what she did…maybe she was just angry, Lily thought, hoped, to herself, tears still silently falling.

"Tuney, come on, I said sorry. Can't we just be ok?" Lily begged/ "Just cos I'm going away doesn't mean I don't love you"

"Your love alone is not enough" Petunia answered sadly, almost to herself.

"Tuney.." Lily said, moving towards her sister.

"Don't touch me freak!" Petunia snapped, turning away from Lily and striding across the platform.

The whistle sounded and Lily was forced to board the train, unable to do anything but watch her sister stalk away, tears blurring her vision.
