Elizabeth sighed, looking over the side of the Black Pearl into the dark water below. Looking up, she could see the town of Port Royal in the distance. She tucked her loose hair behind her ear, pulling her hat down lower on her forehead. It was unusually cold for the Caribbean as dawn broke, but she felt the cold suited the morning's purpose.
She felt his presence behind her, but didn't move to look at him as he stepped up beside her.
"So you're leaving then."
"Yes." She said quietly, still not looking up.
"Well, it's just as well, Lizzie darling, as it never would have worked between us," she could hear the smirk in his voice.
"And why's that, Jack?" Finally looking at him, she felt a sad smile tug at her own lips.
"Because, we're too much alike. Peas in a pod, love."
"So you've said before," she turned and put her back against the rail, slightly looking over her shoulder at him.
"And so I'd say again, if ever the opportune moment appeared again." he looked at her, his voice light, but his face serious.
"You know I care for you Jack." She was cut off by his finger against her lips.
"You've made your decision. We're both aware of how you feel, and how I feel, and how the whelp feels. You'll be happier this way." He turned to leave her, paused, then turned around. Before she knew exactly what was happening, his lips were pressed against hers. She didn't have time to react, and soon he had broken the kiss, turned away, and begun walking away again. She watched him go and sighed as he entered his cabin, slamming the door behind him, bellowing not to be disturbed.
"Are you ready, Elizabeth?" Will rested his hand upon her shoulder. She wasn't sure how long he'd been on deck, and she wasn't sure if he'd seen what had just happened. She had a feeling she might never know.
"Yes, I'm ready." With one final look back at the cabin that she had spent many nights in, she turned and headed towards the boats that would take her to back to the life she had known before.
