The Baby's Name
"Hey, can we talk a minute?" Nick asked Jackie one night as she lay in bed reading after the kids had been put to bed.
"Sure Nicky, what's on your mind?" She asked as she closed the book.
"Well I…" He started to say and then stopped as he noticed a funny look come over her face.
"What's wrong?" He asked sounding concerned.
"Sorry honey, but before you start talking I have to go to the bathroom, even though I just went twenty minutes ago, blame the baby."
He laughed and then he went around to her side of the bed and gave her a hand up.
"Thanks." She told him gratefully before she walked out of the room.
She came back moments later and crawled back into bed.
"Ok hurry up and finish what you wanted to tell me, you've got twenty minutes before I'll have to leave again." She quipped jokingly.
He laughed.
"Alright, I was thinking about baby names the other day and there was this little boy, he was a witness to my case, he wasn't hurt or anything but he was just the sweetest little guy, and I liked his name, although you probably won't because it's more mainstream then what are children's names are but it does go well with both Matthew (the baby's middle name) and Stokes."
"What's the name? I like some of the common names, as long as it doesn't start with the letter P." She told him.
"What's wrong with the letter P?" He asked confusedly.
"Absolutely nothing, but if the baby's name starts with a P his initials would be PMS and I think you'll agree with me that that is not a very good idea."
He burst out laughing, he'd never thought about that but Jackie was absolutely right, and he agreed, that would not be a good thing.
"Well the name doesn't start with a P so we are safe, the name is actually Ryan." He said, as he said it he looked at her to gauge her reaction.
"I like Ryan." She declared.
"Really, because if you don't it's totally fine."
"I do like it, it's true that it's not as unique as our other children's names but it's kind of got a southern flare to it, it's easy to spell which is nice for the kiddo when he starts school, there is no obvious teasing potential that I can think of that comes with the name, and it does go well with Matthew and Stokes."
Nick smiled.
"Oh and one more thing, it ends in an N like Houston and Sloan so that is kind of cute." Jackie added.
"I hadn't thought of that but you're right." He agreed.
"So have we decided?" Jackie asked.
"I like it if you do." Nick told her.
"I like it too." She said with a smile.
"Ok, then I guess it is settled." Nick said as he leaned over and gave her a kiss.
She smiled at him and then kissed him back.
"I love you." Nick told her.
"I love you too Nicky."
Jackie was happy that Nick got to name the baby, with the exception of Houston's middle name she'd basically named all the kids, although she'd never would have named them something Nick didn't like and he always had veto power over any name, he'd been incredibly sweet and let her pick their names in the end and so it was only fair that he got to pick this baby's name, especially because it was their last baby, and in her opinion he had done well because she really did like the name.
She was now more excited then ever for the baby to arrive, although they still had quite a while to wait!
The End!
