Kay laid in Anna's bed, stroking her hair. She kissed his chest. "How long will you be gone?"
"I don't know," said Kay. "I could be gone for just a few weeks or maybe I'll be gone for months."
"I feel sorry for you." Anna worked her way up to his neck. "To be on the road for that long, with only your brother and that man, what was his name?"
"Merlin," said Kay.
"Only Merlin and your brother for company." Anna's hands tickled Kay. "I'm going to be the last woman you see for a while."
"We'll stop at inns along the way." Kay ran his hand down Anna's back. "There should be some serving girls there."
Anna wrapped her arms around Kay. "You will stay faithful to me?"
Kay grit his teeth. Just this morning, he had caught Anna with his brother, Arthur. She had told him that nothing had happened. Kay believed her, but only because they had been interrupted. After awhile Kay spoke. "I would never stray from someone I loved."
"You're so gallant," said Anna. "Every girl in the village should be envious of me."
Kay kissed Anna's neck. "Really?"
"Yes," said Anna. "You're so gallant, and handsome, and good."
"Good?" said Kay.
"You heard my screams," said Anna. "You were good."
"How good was I?" said Kay.
"Very good," said Anna.
Kay chuckled. "How do you know?"
Anna rolled her eyes. "I enjoyed it."
"That's true," said Kay. "But you told me I was your first. If I'm your first, how do you know I'm really that good."
"Well," said Anna. "There have been other men."
"Other men?" said Kay.
"Well...yes," said Anna. "I've known other men. Not like this, but I've known them and I know you're better than them."
"I'm better than them?" Kay ran his fingers over Anna's chin. "Better than Arthur?"
"What?" Anna sat up.
Kay didn't know why he said it, but now that it was out in the open he saw no reason to let Anna off the hook. "I asked if I'm better than my brother. You did fuck him, didn't you?"
"I did not!" said Anna.
"You were going to," said Kay. "And how do I know that that was the only time you tried to know him."
"That was the only time!" said Anna. "And I said I was sorry!"
"I don't think you did." Kay got out of bed.
"I did," said Anna. "I said it when I invited you here. Why else do you think I would share my bed with you?"
"You said I was good," Kay started getting dressed.
"You were good in some regard," said Anna. "In others you fell quite short."
"You sounded satisfied!" said Kay.
"It took awhile." Anna threw one of Kay's boots at him.
Kay began to storm out of Anna's room. Before leaving he turned around. "You do realize Arthur is King?"
Anna raised an eyebrow. "You're mad."
"I'm not," said Kay. "You just fucked the brother of the King."
"Well, if that's true, I almost had the king himself," said Anna. Kay slammed the door.
