Skipper was in his bunk struggling to sleep. He glanced at the bunks. Rico was sleeping with his doll as always. Kowalski was laying on his stomach, head buried in the pillow.
And- Wait, where was Private? Where would the small penguin go at this time of night?
Skipper jumped out of his bunk. He only thought of one place where Private would go.
The park.
That's where he first found Private. The memory has haunted him his whole life.
*Flash Back*
Skipper was walking through the park when he heard soft crying. He followed the sad sounds. The leader spotted a young chick laying on the ground. The chick was crying with fresh cuts all over its body. Skipper walked over to the chick. The baby looked up with frightened eyes.
The older bird bent down and picked up the chick, "Whoa, what happened to you?"
The tiny bird didn't answer him. It snuggled its head in Skipper's feathers. Only question ran through Skipper's head.
How can anyone do this to a baby?
*End of flash back*
Just as he thought, Private was in the park. The young penguin was sitting on the ground.
Skipper walked over, "Private?"
The little bird turned his head.
"What?" He asked.
"What are you doing out?" Skipper narrowed his eyes.
"I had a nightmare." Private mumbled softly.
Skipper sighed then sat down.
"And sitting out here helps you?"
Private leaned against him. He didn't answer. After a while, Skipper turned to look at Private. The little penguin's eyes were closed. He had fallen asleep. The leader smiled then picked up Private and walked towards the zoo.
