Jack stands in the road off the Powell Estate, watching a young blonde toddler held up by her mother walks down the road, blonde curls escaping the pigtails they had been put in.
"Mummy! I want!" Rose shouts, pointing to an icecream sign. Her mum glances across the street before helping he daughter across and into the little shop
Jack squeezes his eyes shut and wishes her smile was still so carefree.
Heart beats fast
Colors and promises
How to be brave?
How can I love when I'm afraid to fall
But watching you stand alone?
All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow
One step closer
This time, it's night and he can see the faintest stars on the horizon. London is too bright to really see them.
His own star is sitting on the bench, her smile bright and cheerful. Her Mum is chatting up a man near by, but Rose is content staring into the sky. She laughs a little, perhaps reliving something, perhaps just laughing because she can.
She always did love the stars.
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
It's early morning, and little third grade Rose is playing on the playground at her school. A little boy pushes her off the step, and she bursts into tears. Jack clenches his fists, but stops himself from running over there and cradling her.
He's never seen Rose cry, and he knows now he never wants to see it again.
Time stands still
Beauty in all she is
I will be brave
I will not let anything take away
What's standing in front of me
Every breath
Every hour has come to this
One step closer
Rose is eleven now, and she and Mickey are swinging on the playground. Mickey tells her a joke, and she bursts into laughter. The sound dances around the cold night, and it's music to Jack's ears. Her laugh isn't much different then it was, no, will be. Mickey beams, he likes impressing her. Jack understands that. When he travelled with her, he would've gone through hell and back to hear her laugh.
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
Fourteen, and she has her first boyfriend. He isn't good enough for her, but then who is?
Rose thinks she's in love, and is left alone when he stands her up. Jack feels a deep, smoldering anger overtake him, but he can't do anything about it. It'd mess up the timeline, and he can't do that, He can't change anything, no matter how much he wants to.
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
One step closer
One step closer
Age sixeen, and Rose is sobbing brokenly, alone in her car. Jimmy Stone has just left her, and the world's turned grey.
Jack watches from the side, longing to take her in his arms and whisper comforting words into her ear. She doesn't deserve this, no one does, but definetly not her. Not his beautiful Rose, not his star.
I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid I have loved you
For a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
Rose is nineteen, and he sees from the window of his SUV, his Doctor and Rose, laughing hysterically. He doesn't think he's ever seen anything so beautiful.
Rose kisses the Doctor's cheek, and a huge grin spreads across his face. He grabs her hand and they disappear into the crowd.
Jack chuckles, even as tears fall down his cheeks.
And all along I believed I would find you
Time has brought your heart to me
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more
