AN: So, this is just a random idea I had. I don't even think the title makes that much sense, but I couldn't think of anything better. I'M GETTING CLOSER TO FIFTY!

Haha, actually, I have all fifty stories written up. I will be posting 48 and 49 tonight, and 50 tomorrow! xD

Sorry if this is OOC!

It hurts him to see how much hurt is in her eyes.

She's not the girl he met a year ago; she's different now; wilder, more rebellious, on the edge.

Months of being a runaway have toughened both of them. They've changed from the semi-innocent children with little cares (Okay, other than the facts that her mother was an abusive drunkard and his mom belonged in an asylum.) in the world to two starving, crazy teenagers that would do anything to survive.

And it's not just being runaways that changed them into what they are now; it's the monsters. Those gods damned awful monsters that keep chasing them for no good reason. Those stupid monsters that pretty much came from out of some crazy mythology book.

If only that was the truth. Both of them knew why the monsters were after them; they were both demigods. Luke was a son of Hermes, but Thalia was a daughter of Zeus. (At least that's the most likely guess for her parentage.)

They were alone. No one really cared for them; their dads didn't give a damn if they were dead or alive. The only people they had were each other, and that made them cautious and guarded.

Things got a little better after they met Annabeth and eventually Grover. They learned there was a place for kids like them—Camp Half-Blood. So, the four of them teamed up to get to that camp, and they almost madeit to camp.

Almost.

They were right there. Camp was right in front of them, but the monster were closing in on them. There was no way all four of them could make it into camp alive.

Thalia told them all to run; she would hold them off as long as she could. And before Luke could protest, she was running towards the monsters and Grover and Annabeth were pulling him towards the camp.

But he'd never be able to get that crazed, desperate look in her eyes out of his head. The look of desperation in her eyes; it terrified him because she was Thalia(Not Thalia Grace, because she hates her surname.), and Thalia was a strong, powerful girl. She didn't admit defeat easily.

He couldn't believe he left her. He left her to die out there, and now, she was dying. He'd failed to keep his promise to her.

Thalia, I promise I'll always protect you.

It'd been during one of their most desperate times. Both hadn't eaten in days, and things were looking grim. To make things worse, the monsters were catching up quickly to them. So, he promised the unthinkable: To always protect her.

He'd failed. She was dead; even worse, she was a freaking tree. He'd failed to protect her.

It was all his fault.
