companion to: still, what a beautiful night
I Heard A Man Speak to the Wind (and it wasn't because he was told)
there's a reason aayla watches them. and it's not just because no one else will. she just wishes anakin and obi-wan could accept that
"I know what you're trying to do, here. We both do."
Aayla crosses her arms. The boys cross their arms back, adding a glare, each. "And so? Someone has to watch your guys' backs."
"No—" Anakin is indignant—"they don't."
"We're quite capable of handling ourselves," Obi-Wan deems fit to add. "Though we do appreciate the thought."
The Tattoine sands stir, and Aayla ignores the urge to scratch. They are not going to budge—they've been firm in any and all decisions they makes—past or present. And besides. How can she influence them one way or the other when she hardly even knows them. But Aayla still wants them to know.
Obi-Wan shakes his head. "Aayla, please."
It's not just pride keeping them moving forward. But that second one should still be obvious.
