Reason to Stay

This is a Dragonball Z fanfiction…well one-shot. It's my first story, so go easy on me. The story is not mine.

Goku walked home slowly. What am I going to do? With her gone… I just don't know. "Daddy? Is mother going to be alright?" Gohan asked his father.

~Flashback~

Chi-Chi and Goku are walking home with Gohan trailing behind. "When do you think this Cell thing is going to go away?" Chi-Chi asked as they walked hand-in-hand.

"I don't know, but it probably won't until he's defeat-" Goku cut off as he sensed a familiar power near. "Chi-Chi, take cover," Goku ordered quietly. "Gohan, you go with her," he added as an afterthought.

Chi-Chi grabbed Gohan's hand as they raced away. Even though he was twelve, she didn't want him to be a part of this. They stayed behind the wall as they waited for Cell to come. Goku seemed ready as ever, but Gohan was not. When he felt Cell's power behind him, he couldn't help but be terrified. He whirled around to see him split his mother in half. "No!" he screamed as Goku ran over and scooped up his wife.

~End flashback~

"Sorry son, your mother didn't make it," Goku said sadly as a tear ran down his cheek. Gohan didn't hold in the sadness any longer. It's my fault! He thought. I should've killed him when I had the chance!

Gohan ran inside. He couldn't take this, not with the death of his mother on his head. Before his father got inside, he grabbed a knife from the kitchen and brought it down hard on his wrists. It was all over.

"No!" Gohan shouted as he awoke from his dream. He is fourteen now.

"Brother?" he heard. He turned toward his bedroom door and saw Goten standing there. "Are you alright?"

"…Yeah," Gohan lied.

"I'm glad, I never want you to leave me," Goten said as we crawled into his brother's lap.

Gohan smiled. I may be the reason my father is dead, but Goten needs me. My dream will never come true. Gohan thought as his mother came in. Father, you died because of me. I'm glad it was not mother as well like my dream had me believe, because then I really would have nothing keeping me from bringing it to reality. I'll watch over them for you father, and I'll never let your memory die. I'm so sorry, Gohan finished as he hugged his brother close to him.
