Always, the sky
Remains the same
Blue as a lover's eyes,
And the forest green
Dappled with twilight grey;

The only difference is:
Crashing down to my shoulders,
The hurt on my chest,

You are not here.

And I miss them.
Your words, your laugh
Or the way your eyes crinkled
When you smiled;

Because I miss them,
My memories
They float in a blue lagoon,
Once a pirate's treasure.

But no longer.

Now, all that remains
Taps me on the shoulder
Each time
My mind forgets, and thinks

Of the way you kissed my cheek
Before night tucked me in,
Or how you slept,
Pressed against a world
Where no one no longer cries.

But how strange.

Now, all I do is cry
In the night,
Where light divides light
Each time
Regret grips my ears, and shakes

Pouring out all the gold,
Piece by piece,
Each memory grabbed and spent.
My essence robbed,
The weight gone, the weight

I spent a thousand years thinking.
Remembering, how you sang
Or even how you cried on the telephone,
Because of me,
A fragile winter lies next to my heart;
My place, where no one cries anymore.

So strange.

How one wish weighs
Everything down,
Pouring out all the pain,
Thread by thread,
Unwinding...

You are not here.

Even as I realize,
I deny,
Even as I cry,
I smile,
Even as I miss you,

Always,
I turn around at 9:30 am
And say
"How was your day?"

Because I miss them,
My memories,
Floating in a blue lagoon,
Once,

The reason your smile
Stays with me, even now
The reason my choice
Clings to me, even now,

Yes.
Memories that make me cry,
We all have them,
But they should run dry.

No longer.

Because I miss them,
My memories,
Floating in a blue lagoon,
Once a pirate's treasure.

A/N: I love this one. Not many of my poems can make me tear up just from reading it over again. Inspired by a number of things, including a song, a oneshot manga I read a long time ago, a personal experience, and a line that I am forever grateful I came up with: "Floating in a blue lagoon, once a pirate's treasure." Enjoy! :)
