A/N: Just going through some of the old fanfiction I'd forgotten in my notebook today (sad, isn't it? XD), when I found this. Just a short drabble for you, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.
Disclaimer: I do not own Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts 2, or any of the characters or scenarios therein. I am writing this fanfiction purely for the pleasure of writing, and sharing it with my fellow authors.

Saïx, whether it is a recently formed routine, or one he has just become aware of, always listens very carefully when Demyx plays his sitar. Through this habit, he has slowly discovered a loose kind of pattern to the ninth Organization member's songs.
It doesn't matter whether the lyrics are sung aloud, or are simply playing through the blond's head as Saïx is fairly sure they must be; he has learned to read from the melodies alone what emotion the songs are doubtless meant to convey.
Some contain a wistful kind of happiness – notes jovially following one after another in a light-hearted tune. Others seem to purposefully carry a more somber sound, soft and slow, yet with each note being played ever so carefully.
And often, Saïx finds himself wondering how Demyx so vividly expresses these feelings through his music, when he has no heart to experience or retain the emotions in the first place. How can anything so complex be created by simple nothingness?
Maybe, he sometimes thinks, all they really are – Demyx, his songs, and the emotions they convey – is a group of nothings under the guise of being something more. Maybe all they are can best be described as the Superior refers to all of his Organization.
Nothings.
But as Saïx listens to every note that floats from Demyx's sitar, he finds that sentiment increasingly hard to believe. If what he hears was truly nothing, he could not possibly hear it, he now reasons.
And if Demyx and his music are really nothings, Saïx thinks that they are sweet nothings, indeed.
