"You're going to die", Jack met Hatter's gaze as she said this to him. He didn't want her to think that she intimidated him.

"You mean you're going to kill me", he spoke in a matter-of-fact voice, without a hint of fear or agony.

"I was trying to put it lightly", she said with a smirk. "You don't fear death, do you?"

"To die would be a great adventure", Jack said in a proud voice that made Hatter role her eyes. "But I'm not going to be the one who falls today."

"You're so certain of that." She pulled a scroll of paper from her pocket, holding it up for Jack to read. It was a list of executions, and Jack knew that Hatter was making a huge mistake by showing it to him. Her arrogance held no bounds.

"When does it start?" Jack sounded as if they were discussing a dinner party and not his own death.

"Ten minutes", she had a dark smile on her face.

"Seven names", Jack said to himself. "Are you really going to kill Alice's daughter?"

"Do you think I would put her name on this list if I wasn't going to?"

"She's a child, are you that heartless?" Jack could hear his voice rising in anger.

"Yes, I am." Hatter said coldly.

"She's innocent!"

"Nothing is innocent!" Jack looked at Hatter as if he was only then seeing who she truly was. "We're done here."

As Hatter left she could tell that Jack's gaze was still on her. The moment that she had closed the door hind her, she broke into a run, and didn't stop until she had reached a small room. She entered the room and locked the door behind her. Only then did she let the tears spill from her, supposedly emotionless, eyes.

Jack thought her to be a fool and a murderer, and she told herself that it didn't matter. This was just part of her plan, and if he trusted her than none of it would work. She knew that he and the other prisoners would escape, and that they would tell The Queen how Hatter was planing to kill her.

Jack and the others would never know that this was exactly what Hatter wanted. She'd had her fill of life, and knew that there was no way for her ever to be happy. She was ready to die. Her only regret was that Jack would never know this. He would hate her for the rest of his days, and there was nothing that she could do about it.

Hatter wiped the tears from her face, and took a deep breath. She was ready for the end. She was ready for the final chapter in this broken tale.
