My first fanfic. I decided to start with something small.

Disclaimer: I don't own Danny Phantom.

Daniel James Fenton Jr. was asleep, dreaming about the legendary Danny Phantom his mother loved to tell him stories about. In his dream, Phantom was beating up the sorry spook that had dared to threaten Amity Park. Young Daniel was right up in the air with him, readying the thermos and preparing to suck the ghost into it. He successfully activated it and captured the ghost. Cheers erupted from the crowd below. Danny Phantom flew up to him and gave him a high five.

"Great job, son."

Son?

Daniel was awake in an instant. Why had Danny Phantom called him son in his dream? Daniel didn't have a daddy, only a mommy. His friends all had daddies, but his mommy said his daddy was gone. Daniel didn't know what Mommy meant by that.

Beep.

A gust of chill wind blew past Daniel and sent him shivering. He hugged his shoulders, teeth chattering. "Mommy?" he called. He knew Mommy would be there to comfort him, perhaps with a blanket to put around his shoulders. She was always there to help him.

Beep.

Sure enough, he felt a blanket wrap around his shoulders a moment later. But it wasn't Mommy who had given him the blanket.

"Wh-who are you?" Daniel stuttered. There was a strange man on his bed. Daniel wasn't really scared (well, maybe a little). Strange people came to his bed all the time, asking him questions and putting things in his mouth and on his chest. It wasn't anything new.

Beep.

"What, you don't recognize me?" the man asked. He had white hair and glowing green eyes, kinda like-

"Danny Phantom?" the boy asked in wonder.

"The one and only," the man said, his eyes twinkling.

Beep.

Daniel's mouth hung open in awe. After a few seconds, all he could think of to say was, "You're a ghost!"

Beep.

Danny Phantom laughed. "Yeah, I suppose I am..." He trailed off slightly, a sad tone to his voice. Daniel wondered why he was so sad. "Do you know why I'm here, Daniel?" he asked afterwards.

Daniel shook his head no, his mouth still open in awe at meeting the hero of his bedtime stories.

Beep.

Danny Phantom floated off of Daniel's bed, and turned to face him. "I'm here because I was having trouble protecting Amity Park, and I need a partner." He looked Daniel straight in the eye and said seriously, "I was hoping you could help me."

Beep.

Daniel was blown away by this request. "But I don't have ghost powers like you!" he exclaimed.

The ghost shook his head, smiling sadly. "No matter. I could still use the help of someone like you."

Daniel was up and out of his bed in a second. He nodded his head.

Beep.

Danny Phantom grinned, and offered Daniel his hand. Daniel reached out his own hand, about to take Phantom's, but hesitated.

Beep.

"What about Mommy? Won't she be coming with?" Daniel asked.

Danny Phantom shook his head. "Your mother can't come with us yet. She will, when she's ready, but in the meantime, she'll have to learn to move on."

Daniel, satisfied with Danny Phantom's answer, smiled. He took the hand of his childhood hero, who gave him a warm smile in return.

Brrrrrrrr.

The doctors rushed in to Daniel's room, whose heart had just stopped. Nurses hastily performed CPR, but to no avail. The boy could simply not be revived. Sam, who was by Daniel's bedside the whole time, was ushered out.

Outside the hospital room, Sam broke down, sobbing. First, she had lost Danny. Now her son, the splitting image of his father, was about to be lost to her as well. Daniel was her world. If she lost him, there was nothing left.

She didn't know what to do.

A gust of chill wind blew past her. Sam stiffened. A voice whispered in her ear.

Sam, your world is not over. You will see me and Daniel again. In the meantime, you'll just have to learn to move on.

A/N: If you have the time, a review would be nice.
