My first attempt at a fanfic for one of my favorite ships, Boyd and Ava. Enjoy and please remember to review!

Boyd Crowder was the luckiest man in the world.

Lying in his bed, his arms wrapped around the woman he loved more than life itself, he couldn't help smiling. Rain fell outside, isolating them from the rest of the world.

He nuzzled his face into Ava's neck and smiled.

The first time he ever laid eyes on Ava, he was seventeen and she was fourteen. She was beautiful even then, but she only had eyes for Raylan Givens. He tried not to let it get to him; he was already working in the mines and daydreaming of ways to get the hell out of Harlan. Then a few years later, she married his brother and he realized she would never be his.

Now, some fifteen years later, there they were. He looked at the diamond ring glittering on her left hand, and his thoughts shifted to marriage. He didn't need a piece of paper to prove his commitment and devotion to her, but he wanted all the world to know that they were man and wife.

Closing his eyes, he ran his hand up and down her arm. He would never claim to be a great man, or even a good one. He didn't deserve Ava by any means, but for whatever reason, God had chosen to grace him with his angel on earth. He would love her until he drew his last breath, and probably even longer.

Lightning briefly lit up the room. Still asleep, Ava scooted closer to him and tucked her head under his chin. He smiled. Even in her sleep, she looked to him for protection. He would always protect her.

"I love you, baby," he whispered to her sleeping form.

At that moment, he was certain his life couldn't get any better.

No matter where my reckless soul takes me

Baby, you save me

The End.
