I don't own Bones
"So, how are ya holdin up Bones?"
Brennan rolled lazily into Booth's bare chest, "Hm?"
Running a finger over the skin on her back he answered, "You know, things are fairly rockin and rolling between us now; we are practically living together, we're pregnant."
She lifted her head in concern, "I'm fine Booth, why are you asking me this?"
He tucked a lock of bed hair behind her ear, "Just… I know you Bones: you don't like changes and there's been quite a few in the last month and a half. Just… you know - checking in."
"This is my choice, Booth. You, me, a family together – it's all a choice."
He nodded silently and her eyes crinkled in contemplation, "Are you having regrets Booth? Is this going too fast for you?"
"No, no way! I'm loving this, Bones. Like I said – it's always been you," he dipped his head for a quick kiss, "it's just… I'm just wondering how you're going with it is all."
Brennan smiled sweetly, placed her hands over his heart and rested her chin on her hands, "I know you, Booth. You have never hidden your views on relationships and I have never entertained the thought of this being anything less than your romanticised idea of such."
"What are you saying Bones?"
"I'm saying – I've always known what you expect out of a relationship. That's why I said no to you when you suggested a relationship between us because I couldn't give you what you wanted – as much as I wanted to. I didn't believe in marriage and traditional familial arrangements. But… seeing you with Hannah made me realise how irrelevant it all was. I was willing to give up the one man I truly loved because I was too mulish to compromise on an issue that meant so much to you."
"Hey, Bones, it's all water under the bridge now baby, we're a family now and I was just as stubborn."
"Yes, you were. The point is that when I decided that I wanted a relationship with you – I accepted all that it entails. That's why I am enjoying the progressions in our relationship. I want this, Booth. Normally I don't like change but I want this."
His face split into a cheeky, charm laden grin, "So does that mean there's hope for a Mrs Temperance Booth?"
"No."
"Oh." He couldn't keep the disappointment from his voice but he'd figured as much.
"I will need to keep my last name. I am a public figure after all and, whilst I am not opposed to Brennan-Booth, my publisher has advised against hyphenation."
"You spoke to your publisher about it?" Of course she spoke to her publisher about it!
"Well, yes. I assumed that, given my pregnancy and your beliefs you would want to be married before the baby arrives." Taking in his stunned expression, she backpedalled, rolling off him and onto her back, "Did I assume wrong? I'm not very good at this Booth, I… mmph!"
Pinning her to the bed, he kissed away her doubt, "Marry me, Temperance."
"Yes."
