"Sirius, don't we usually find Moony by now?" James asked as he and his companion traipsed through the brush on the outskirts of the Forbidden Forest.

Sirius, who was walking ahead of James, said confidently, "Nah, we'll find him." Though his voice signaled no hint of worry, his eyes darted back and forth for any sign of their friend.

Just as Sirius was about to suggest that they take another one of Remus' 'routes' from the nights when he changes, he heard the painful groan coming from about four meters ahead.

"Mooney!" Sirius shouted involuntarily. "James, he's here!"

The two boys ran to the tattered wreck that was Remus Lupin. Sirius started checking his wounds, just like every month, while James was on standby with his broom, waiting to hear whether he would have to go get Madam Pomphrey's aid or not.

"Oh no…" Sirius muttered, his hands reaching a wound that went through the better part of his intestines. He was loosing blood, and fast. "James, GO!" Sirius bellowed, and James was gone in a flash.

Sirius felt a hand grab his leg, causing him to look into the eyes of his best friend, as opposed to his gaping wounds.

"I'm sorry, Sirius," Remus tried speaking, but it was obviously very painful.

"What in the world have you got to be sorry for, you git?" Sirius jested. "The only thing you'd have to be sorry for is if you let go right now. You're my best mate, Remus. You're my…" Suddenly nothing seemed all that funny anymore as hot tears tried making their way to the surface.

"It's okay," Remus tried to reassure his friend, even thought he was the one a second from bleeding out.

"No, it isn't!" The tears made their way over his eyelids and down his cheeks, landing on Remus' bare, torn, chest. "You can't leave me here to keep pretending that I'm someone I'm not. You're the only one who knows who I am."

"I know," an exasperated, yet obviously emotional, reply from Remus who had tears in his eyes as well, no longer from the physical pain, but from the mental anguish.

Sirius brought his face closer to Remus'. He whispered, "The only one," before kissing him gently, yet passionately. When the kiss broke, Remus smiled weakly. Not long after, the last bits of life which Remus had clinging to so hard began to leave him.

"No! Don't you dare! Remus, you can't leave me!" Sirius sobbed, looking down into Remus' now lifeless eyes. He continued in hysterics until James returned with aid, all just a little too late.
