Summary: Triabble from Dizziedinadreams - An ancient evil is sent to tempt Sam away from his mission to seal the Gates of Hell.

The serpent slithered through the undergrowth, its massive underbelly leaving a trail of flattened foliage in its wake.

It was on a mission; knew exactly what it must do; had received clear instructions from its master.

Sam Winchester must be prevented from closing the gates of hell forever.

And the giant behemoth would make sure of it; failure was not an option. Because the reward offered was far too great. After a millennia Crowley would overturn the curse; enable it to rise up and walk again, a thing prohibited since God had cast out man from the Garden of Eden.

It didn't take long to locate Sam. Travelling silently across the landscape, then through the motel plumbing, with infinite patience and will to succeed, it found its quarry asleep in his bed.

Lulling him into deeper sleep, it charmed him with images of his own personal Eden; a home, a loving wife and two perfect children.

It showed him a long life filled with love and laughter, honest work, Sunday lie-ins, baseball in the park, birthdays, tantrums over homework and finally, autumn days filled with the joy of grandchildren.

It was a dream from which Sam didn't want to wake.

Sam bent down to pick a rose for his wife, and winced as a wicked-sharp thorn pierced his hand. The flower dropped to the ground unheeded, as Sam stared at the blood welling up.

He frowned, tracing the line of the old puckered scar that framed the puncture wound. What was this; trouble in Eden?

Memories tugged at him – a voice saying something about stone number one; an earnest, desperate gaze transfixing him; a warm hand gripping his, anchoring him.

Sam's eyes flew open and he twisted free of the serpent with a shout.

Dean was the only family that mattered.

So the LORD God said to the serpent, 'Because you have done this, cursed are you above all the livestock and all the wild animals! You will crawl on your belly and you will eat dust all the days of your life.
