A/N: Hmm, it's been a while since the last time I posted anything, huh? School and work have been keeping me way too busy, and I know it's a lame excuse, but it's totally true. Plus I just got back from Tokyo last Friday so now I'm trying to catch up on what I missed while staying on top of the current crap. Poor me… Anyway, this's another poem. Sorry; they just take less time to write and I feel bad for not being able to create much fan love for these two as I used to. So, without further ado…

The ninja opened his eyes because all was not right;

Something was amiss on that cold winter's night.

He sat up and his scarlet eyes scanned the dark place.

Then he realized what was wrong and a frown came to his face.

In the bed next to his was a big empty spot

Where the magician ought to be now but was not.

The ninja got up to search out the lost wizard.

Outside the windows blew a violent night's blizzard.

From the front room came a light, flickering and dim.

Kurogane wondered if that could be him.

Sure enough, in the stone grate there burned a small fire.

Fai sat in the window, watching the snow pile higher.

His constant mask had now vanished, no smile was shown.

His broken heart more obvious now that he was alone.

Kurogane felt guilty; his chest became painful and tight

As he recalls angry words he'd shouted earlier that night.

"You damn useless wizard!" His hands balled to fists that were gloved.

"You're such a dumb ass to think you could ever be loved!

Out of all that's happened, my deepest regret

Is just the fact that you and I ever met!"

For just a split second, Fai's skin was white as paste,

Then his smile came back, though forced and with haste.

He'd laughed the it all off and used his smile to hide,

But within him another piece of his fragile heart died.

These words would have hurt him coming from anyone,

Though spoken by the ninja, the most damage was done.

To say the mage seemed fine after that would be straight-out lying;

He'd gone to bed early and the swordsman was sure he'd been crying.

From his place on the windowsill, Fai shivered a bit

Despite the warmth radiating from the fire he'd lit.

He closed his eyes just as tight as he could,

Hugging himself because no one else would.

Though Kurogane was nervous, he took the first leap.

He came up behind Fai and muttered "What's wrong? Can't you sleep?"

Fai was startled and turned to see Kurogane standing there.

He bowed his head quickly to avoid his friend's stare.

When he spoke, his voice was laced with pain, too.

"Ah, Kurosama…I'm sorry if it was I that woke you…"

Kurogane saw the magician attempt his usual grin

Then he turned his back to the ninja, and shivered again.

Yet no drafts leaked through the windows as they stood there together.

Apparently, Fai's shivering wasn't because of the weather.

Kurogane sighed, unable to imagine an easier way

Than to simply tell Fai what he needed to say.

"Look, about what I said before…" he mumbled, his words all a rush.

"I… didn't mean it." He turned away to hide his deep blush.

"I shouldn't have said those things after what you've been through…

And…I know there's someone out there…who would love only you."

His voice contained gentleness and an unspoken vow,

Fai knew the one he'd been talking about was here with him now.

Embarrassed, Kurogane tossed a blanket over Fai's head

And without one more word, returned to his bed.

Fai smiled softly in a way that he never had before.

Suddenly, he didn't feel so cold anymore.

A/N: I think I'm fairly happy with the result, though there are a few parts where I ran into some rhythm issues. Plus this stupid formatting is pissing me off and I don't know how to change it… I hope you all liked it. Reviews much appreciated!
