Ok so it has been ages since I actually posted something on here, so hopefully my writing hasn't completely gone upside down and inside out. I decided to shake off the rust by writing a small one shot, and then as my confidence comes back I shall possibly do a longer story. Saying that, I have never actually completed a whole story, so I might just delete my other stories and being again.
-Anna-
Even though there were four floors in the house, shouting could still be heard coming from the kitchen of number twelve, Grimmauld Place.
Regulus -lying on his bed, out of harm's way - pressed his pillow harder over his ears, trying to block the noise out. He didn't want to hear his parents and brother verbally abusing each other. He didn't want to hear the smashing of cutlery, which had been thrown in anger by his mother. But most importantly, he didn't want Sirius to leave, and he be left alone with his half-crazy mother and power hungry father.
Heavy footsteps and slamming open of a door, told Regulus that his brother had returned to his own room. The young wizard debated whether to go talk to his brother. After all they were not that close, but they did have their moments.
Sighing, Regulus got up and left his room and made his way across the hall to his brother's. The door was open and he could see Sirius packing his trunk. Even with his back facing him, Regulus knew his brother was angry; by the way he was taking deep breaths to calm himself down.
"You're leaving?"
Sirius jumped, startled by his brother's quiet voice. He turned and was met with sorrow filled eyes "I have to Reg, "he said quietly "I've had enough"
"What about me?" Regulus asked, his voice breaking.
"You'll be fine, as soon as I get enough money and my own place, you can come and live with me. Until then I need you to stay here"
Regulus nodded, "Where will you go?" he asked, as Sirius packed the last of his things.
"To James's, just until I finish school," Sirius picked up his trunk and faced his brother at the doorway "I'm sorry, Reggie. If I could stay and look after you I would, you know that"
"I understand" the young teen whispered.
Sirius looked at his brother, placed his trunk on the floor then pulled him into a fierce hug, filled with unsaid things. When he pulled back, he placed a kiss on his brother's head. "I'll always be there for you, never forget that" he said before gathering his belongings and leaving.
Regulus didn't watch his brother leave but smiled. He knew Sirius would be there for him, and he would try and be there for Sirius. After all, that's what brothers are for.
