What do dragons think about?

Rin sat by the campfire that evening observing her travel companions. Jaken was going on and on about how wonderful Sesshomaru had been today during the battle with one of Naruku's incarnations when Rin interrupted him.

"What do dragons think about?" she pondered.

"How should I know, but more importantly WHY do you ask?" he replied.

"He's asleep again and sometimes his legs move and sometimes he mumbles to himself," Rin replied.

"Ask him when he wakes. And stop interrupting my stories!" Jaken whined.

A stone flew across the campfire from the nearby tree and hit the little green man promptly knocking him silent. Sesshomaru entered the firelight, sitting himself near Rin.

"I have my ideas about that, Rin," Sesshomaru said conspiratorially. "You want to hear what I think?"

"Absolutely, My Lord!" Rin positively bounced with excitement.

"When I returned from my battle I notice several things about this area. See those footprints over there and that dead garter snake. I also noticed the flowers you have with you are not from this area."

"That's true, My Lord!" Rin said amazed.

"This is what I think happened," and Sesshomaru settled in to tell a story.

He was Ah-Un, Dragon of Danger, in His Lordship's service. He had been called to action to protect Princess Rin—(Rin started giggling. Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow. Rin stopped short and begged him to go on.)—to protect Princess Rin from unknown danger while Lord Sesshomaru battled with one of Naruku's incarnations. The battle field had spread out over the countryside so far that Lord Sesshomaru feared he couldn't protect them all. As Lord Sesshomaru leaped away, Ah-Un heard a noise on the ground. Ah spied the "dreaded serpent, Vert Garet."

"Quick, Un, we must protect the Princess!" Ah said.

"Righto, Ah," replied Un.

With that the dragon proceeded to pummel the ground near where Rin was standing quickly ending the life of the "dreaded serpent, Vert Garet"

Next Ah-Un surveyed the area to find a place of safety for Princess Rin. Motioning her to jump on his back he flew to a nearby flowering field and allowed his principal to jump off and run around. He continued his surveillance.

"Ah, Look at that suspicious creature," whispered Un.

"I see it," countered Ah. "You better keep your eyes on it."

Un nodded. "The mischievous fairies, "Papillon Fée," could not be underestimated. They charmed their victims into following them into the dark and dense forest and leaving them there."

"Protect the Princess at all costs!" they said together.

Sesshomaru finished his story.

"I especially noticed when I returned from the battle that Ah-Un stood tall and proud next to this Sesshomaru. I gathered that he spent the last hours chasing bad demons, and keeping the area safe for you, Rin. Perhaps I should have shaken his paw and lauded his service. I couldn't have done it without you, Ah-Un," Sesshomaru concluded.

Rin immediately went to the dragon and gave him a hug.

Ah-Un grunted a content sigh and rolled over.

Well, that's what I think, but who knows what dragons really think about?
