Sasuke doesn't really like coffee.

It's too bitter, even with all the cream and sugar swirled into it and turning it a deceiving caramel colour. It sours at the back of his throat and burns all the way down.

Sasuke would much rather drink cocoa in the morning, or milk to soothe his twisting stomach and ease the throbbing in his temples. The pot switches off and Sasuke pours two mugs of the steaming brown liquid just as Kakashi wanders into the kitchen, still masked but bared to the waist.

He looks at Sasuke, dazed and slightly panicked, until the boy slides a mug across the counter into Kakashi's hands and picks up his own; half-draining it in one long gulp. The liquid scalds his throat and Sasuke swallows quickly, keeping his wince in check. He sips at the rest of the coffee until Kakashi decides that Sasuke's not really as young as he looks and can ignore the way his sweatshirt hangs loosely on Sasuke's shoulders and around his wrists.

Sasuke hates coffee but he drinks it anyway.

He's not a child.
