Lily's Itch
It was as if somebody had put a hot marker over her body hundreds of times and left it there until she couldn't stand it anymore. Each mark on her body was their torture.
She had been sent to Madam Pomfrey the moment the first mark had appeared. Her fellow housemates had been afraid of her. Madam Pomfrey had poked and prodded at her skin, trying to figure it out.
All the while Lily's cries could be heard all the way down to Hagrid's hut.
"You need to stop wriggling, Miss Potter," the nurse had said. "I'm trying to find out what the matter – oh dear."
Her words were enough for Lily to stop. "What?" she demanded.
Madam Pomfrey didn't respond immediately. Rather, she continued to study the young student's ailment.
"Whaaaat?" Lily cried.
Madam Pomfrey stood straighter and looked the girl in the eyes. "Miss Potter, I hate to say it, but I am diagnosing you with chicken pox."
"What?"
"A Muggle disease, harmless when caught on time." And that was it. She left the Potter girl lying on the bed while she hurried away to make a soothing cream.
Lily rolled onto her back with a sigh. Chicken pox? Of all the damn diseases in the world, she just had to get the one made her want to scratch her skin off. Perfect.
Madam Pomfrey returned with the cream and began layering it on her. "This will stop the scratching. I'll inform your professors you will not be in class for the next week. Rest up, Miss Potter. It won't take long to cure you."
Lily sighed again. So now she had a body that was tingling like crazy and no social life.
How wonderful.
