Shepard chose destroy ending, which ultimately lead to his death, I wish he could have lived, but honestly, his sacrifice paved the way for a new hope.

After the speech, then comes the extended cut for destroy for every good thing paragon that shepard did, his ems is above to where he could live, but again a honorable sacrifice.

It taught us that we have to create the future or others will do it for us (create our future or others will take it from us). It showed us that we have to care (defend, and work together) for one another, because if we don't, who will? And that true strength sometimes comes from the most unlikely places. Mostly, though, I think it gave us hope, that there can always be new beginnings. Even for beings like us.
