AN: Hello and welcome to my new collection of oneshots! This collection is made for two purposes, one to add more stories to the Ares category, and two as a warm up to pin down the characterization of the main cast before I begin an epic length Ares story. That said please give me constructive criticism with a focus on the characterization, other things are secondary to this. Also if you'd like to be a beta reader on either these or the epic length story offer in your review.
Disclaimer: standard disclaimers apply, I do not own Ares.
I can't help but notice things sometimes, and I'm sure the difference between what I notice and what Mikael, Baroona, and Ares notice is quite large. This applies doubly so on the battlefield, when they see one they categorize troop position, available weapons, and a thousand other things I can't even begin to think of. I see something different. I see the world as a giant canvas, because of this, as much as seeing what is there I also see what isn't. I'm fundamentally different, for me there is no allure in the chaotic Immediacy of combat. They think in motion and victory and fight, I crystalize a single moment forever. After a fight they can relax because their job is done, but mine is just beginning.
I see more because I look, that doesn't always mean I know how to interpret it accurately though. Way back in the beginning, after we fought the bandits, I noticed the lack of Carnival's body after Mikael fought with him. I knew Mikael wasn't the type to give an enemy an honorable burial and that he wouldn't have time to with how quickly he got back. As he wasn't setting up an ambush I put it out of my mind. Where Carnival's body went, that was really the first of the mysteries surrounding Mikael that I noticed.
I trusted Mikael enough to make sure Carnival wouldn't attack us again, and I can't say I regret my decision. In the end, our entire main group survived the war he started. Looking back I can't believe that was nothing.
