She wouldn't let any more time pass. She would do it this time for sure. She let them take him away. And she'd almost lost him inside that stupid book. And she'd cried. She'd cried. Because the mere thought of losing the one who stole them away from their horrid past, who turned their Cinderella fantasies real, who made Patty laugh away her worries, who killed them, yet saved them, and gave them a life they couldn't even dream of, whom she lov-

"Kid?"

Was just too much.

"Hm?"

He turned, as gracefully as he always had, standing poised and as symmetrical as physically possible, with the unique dramatic flair she'd only ever seen in him. Lord Shinigami's cloak followed his movements, and the skull mask that had been perfectly aligned to the center of his head, shifted just a bit to ruin the balance, as if Shinigami-san was humoring him. A smile masked the pain of losing his father so perfectly only she and Patty could have ever noticed it. No one could ever predict that Lord Death could ever actually, well, die. So young, and now without his father…Kid was so strong…so strong. To think she actually had him for a partner…she was so privileged.

How could she be so lucky?

How…could…she…be…so…lu-ucky…

The tears ran down her cheeks before she could stop herself, and before she knew it her arms were around his neck, holding him tighter and closer than ever before. This time she wouldn't let him go, never disappear his side, won't ever leave him alone. Never.

"L-Liz?!"

She cut him off before he could say more, tightening her hold on him like she should have done ages ago, wrapping him in warmth she thought she'd never had 'til she met him.

It came out as a mumble at first, but she knew he heard it when he tensed.

"Thank you…"

She squeezed him snugger, as her sobs filled the empty hallway.

"Thank you…"

They sank to the floor, Kid's arms hanging limp at his sides. His eyes were wide and unsure.

"Thank you…"

When her words finally reached him, he drew in a breath, and snaked his arms around the taller girl shyly, then firmly. He braided his fingers through her hair, offering her comfort because dear Shinigami, he hated seeing her cry.

He held her then, 'til her sobs had died down, rather timidly burying his face in the crook of her neck.

She realized even now, and maybe 'til the end, she'll keep having one more thing to thank him for. So she meant it, put all her heart and being into the two words she will always tell him for saving Patty, for saving her, for giving them a home.

"Thank you."

Heya!

I hope you enjoyed this little bit.

Decided to write this since I remembered Liz didn't really get to thank him in the manga and this is what I imagined it would be like ;)

Yay!

BONUS!

"Liz?"

The blonde stirred from his arms, her tears finally stopping in the comfort of his embrace.

"Yeah?

She was met with a pathetic look and the shinigami bent over and slamming his arm on the floor.

"YOU HAVE TO CRY ON THE OTHER SHOULDER TOO OR IT WON'T BE SYMMETRICAL!"
