This has been sitting on my computer for months for some reason. Trolling your glee fic folder FTW. Drabble set in Funeral...written after seeing the Funeral promo following Prom Queen. Spec for what followed Quinn saying "You and I need to quit glee club". AU obvs.
"You and I need to quit Glee Club."
He knows she's still talking to him…explaining why she just said this but he can't wrap his mind around the words she just said. Why would she do this now? They're leaving for New York in less than a week. They're leaving to compete in the Show Choir National Championships in less than a week…and she wants the two of them to quit glee? What's gotten into her? They'll be one person short if the two of them leave.
He realizes she's waiting for him to agree with her but he can't stop looking at her with this dumbfounded expression on his face because he's speechless (and not in the good way).
"Have you lost your mind?" he asks once he's found his voice.
"No, Finn. We lost prom court because of Glee. We need to start laying the foundation for next year now and we can't do that if we're in glee. It isn't cool and it doesn't matter how we do at Nationals…it's never going to be cool."
"Who cares if it isn't cool, Quinn?"
"I care! The people we go to school with who aren't getting out of here care! Those people, Finn, the ones like you and me. If we're seen as popular now…"
She keeps talking but again he stops listening…because she thinks that he's not getting out of Lima. That she isn't getting out of Lima. But it's been his dream since sophomore year to get out of Lima and make something great of himself. Doesn't she know that?
"Finn! Are you even listening to me?"
"No." he can't stop himself from answering honestly and he doesn't really want to.
He's sick of pretending like he likes…wants…loves Quinn. He only has those feelings for one girl…and she's a five foot two ball of determination and music.
"I don't care about popularity, Quinn." He says, and he knows it the truth because he can honestly say to himself now what he's about to tell her. "I like glee more than football…and nothing's going to change that. I'm tired of pretending that it's the other way around. If you only want to be popular and you want to leave glee to do that…fine…but I'm staying. Glee makes me happy and it's where my real friends are."
He goes quiet and starts to leave the choir room because he can't be near her any more.
"Is this it then? You're choosing this…them…her over me again?" she asks quietly, because he knows she already knows the answer.
He turns back to look at her sadly. "Yes."
He could be honest with her but saying what's in his heart right then is just cruel. Because there is no choice. When it comes down to it…he doesn't have to think about who he'd choose. It's Rachel…it'll always be Rachel.
