Prologue
"It was fifteen years ago that our lives changed for the worst. I was only two years old at the time and my sister was born a few months before. But I still faintly remember the look on my mother's face when it happened; pale and filled with dread and fear. After years of territorial disputes, a terrible war between Amestris and Drachma was waged. Many of our country's finest soldiers fought bravely against the invading forces. But no one in Amestris was aware of their enemy's sudden gain in military strength. Eventually, our entire country was overwhelmed and within weeks, was completely conquered and brought under Drachman rule. No one saw it coming; not my father, not the country of Xing, our ally which struggled to bring us aid; not even our Fuhrer who is believed to be dead. Now we live in an era of fear and violence. This is life now. This is the world my generation grew up in. This is our story."
