Jane and Maura take Lydia to birthing classes, Jane gets caught up in a daydream. Rizzles oneshot

Lydia was sitting cross-legged on the floor between Jane and Maura at her first birthing class. The instructor has just announced that the spouses should start to massage their wives backs. Jane gave a disgusted look to Maura who shot the lanky detective a quick glance back but of course gave in and started massaging the expecting woman.

While Maura worked the massage roller down Lydia's back, Jane took this opportunity to daydream a bit. Just being in Maura's presence and in a class such as this sent her mind reeling. Ever since her last encounter with Hoyt and her fight with Maura, Jane had realized that perhaps her feelings went past friendly platonic ones. She never wanted to do wrong by Maura and found comfort in her touch, in fact she frequently found herself craving a touch from the honey blonde intellect. This both scared her and amused her.

Jane was imagining birthing class sans Lydia… What if one day her and Maura were here for one of them?

"Jane, could you just massage a little lower down? Oh yes, that's perfect honey. Thanks so much dear."

Jane continued to rub and work her hands down her now very pregnant wife and encouraged her to work on her breathing exercises.

"Like this Maur, 'hee hee hoo, hee hee hoo' you're going to be a great mother honey, I just know it."

Maura now rearranged herself on the mat to be in the birthing position. Jane scooted over to be right neat the doctor's feet and grabbed her now spread knees. Just going through the motions of the birthing process comforted both future moms and helped them to imagine the fast coming special day. They had chosen to keep the gender a surprise, to Angela Rizzoli's displeasure. She had adamantly voiced her concern with Jane several times, how was she supposed to paint and decorate her future grandchild's room if she wasn't sure on the gender? Eventually she stopped bothering the couple though, she seemed to realize that she should at least be happy with the fact that her daughter was finally giving her the grandchild she'd always dreamed of. Jane was happy to oblige.

"Jane, I'm so happy I'm carrying our baby. We're going to be a real family and I couldn't have picked a better person to start it with. I love you."

"I love you too, Maura."

"What did you just say Jane?"

Oh shoot! Jane had been so caught up in her daydream that she had actually let that slip.

"Uh, well it was just… hey, how did Lydia manage to fall asleep?"

It was true, Lydia was passed out on the mat snoring. The other couples were going through different breathing exercises but this odd trio was doing anything but. Still though, this change off subject didn't lead Maura to forget what she had just heard her best friend say and she wanted to get to the bottom of it, after all, it seemed to be just the words she was wishing for.

"I'm not sure, I guess the massage and breathing technique was quite calming. So about what you said, it's improper to say, 'I love you too,' unless I have already said, 'I love you.' So, Jane Rizzoli, I love you. And although I'm not sure when I started to, I truly do and I hope you meant what you said while you were daydreaming because I don't want to ever lose you."

With that reassurance, Jane slowly leaned into Maura and placed a soft and tender kiss on the doctor's lips. Maybe her dream would come true one day after all.
