October 1 2014

I am E-001. But my name is Eveline. I was born as a weapon for the Connections. From the day I was conceived, my genetic structure was different from a normal human. I was designed to have special capabilities to end any confrontation possible. Days after I was born, my aging was artificially increased so I could look like a little girl. Ten years old to be exact. Every single day, I must take my aging injection to keep my aging from accelerating.

For as long as I could remember, I always wanted to be normal. I can't help but to look at the staff and the patrolling guards and envision myself as them. I liked to listen to their conservations. They often talk about their hobbies and their home life. I always felt envy towards me, they had everything I never had.

I always imagined what it would be like to have a family. A family I could call my own.

The only thing I ever had was walls. Gray walls surrounding me. Doctors probing me and poking me with needles. Guards and staff snarking and insulting me behind my back.

Every single day I was on a schedule. I wake up to the alarm at 5am. I am escorted out of my cell by the armed guards at 5:10am to be given my injections. At 5:20, I am escorted back to my cell to be given my meal. At 5:30am to 9:30PM, I am trained to master my powers. Finally at 10PM, I am sent to my cell to sleep.

I always hear the staff describing me as "The Thing," "The little Abomination," and worst of all, "the little bitch." I hated everyone here as much as they hated me.

It is October 1 when my life changed forever. There I was, sitting in the corner of my cell. I listen attentively to the humming of the vents. When the steel door of my cell opens, I expect the voice of a harsh guard.

But instead I hear a soft voice of a woman. "Hi, Evie." I snap my head to the door and I stand up.

My stomach churns with anxiety, my muscles tightens. Evie? No one ever called me that.

A tall woman with brown hair enters the cell. She has a wide smile printed on her face. "Evie, I'm Mia. Mia Winters." Mia says in a tender voice.

Her voice sends chills down my spine. I open my mouth to speak, but only air comes out.

"Me and Alan are going you to take on a little boat ride!" Mia informs me. I can't help the curling of my lips. Warmth floods my cold veins. Her demeanor is alien to me, but intriguing. She is a unique character. I study Mia from head to toe.

"I guess it. All of this is very weird. But we're going to be a family for a little bit!" Mia says with a light giggle. "It's going to be great! I'm gonna be your super cool caretaker!"

A family? My heart skips a beat. I imagine what life would be like if Mia was my Mommy. A Mother who would love and cherish me.

"You're going to be my Mommy?" I ask breathlessly. My eyes begin to water without warning. "Why?"

Mia's eyes softens, she averts eye contact with me. My mind races with panic. I want to kick for myself for asking that question. Did I say something wrong? What did I do wrong? My nerves are immediately soothed when Mia runs her warm fingers through my dark hair.

"Because we're going to be a family, Evie. I promise. I'm your caretaker. This is gonna be fun." Mia reassures me. That's when I feel something strange inside of me.

A sensation that is radiant and pleasing. A comfortable wave of heat flows through me, chasing away all negative emotions of any kind.

A smile forms on my face when Mia's warm hand grabs my cold one. "Come on, let's go, Evie!" She chirps.

I can't contain my happiness at this moment. "Okay, Mia." I say.

Leave reviews and thoughts. I am currently working on the Infection, Mercy, and the other stories. (Update, Eveline doesn't call Mia, "Mommy" until next chapter.)
