Merely Another Journey

With each change of season,
Memories to last,
Futures to look forward to,
Reflections of the past.
Glad times met with feelings of joy,
That linger near to me in sleep.
But dream as often as I do,
Some wounds run far too deep.
Some say everything cures in time,
But this feeling just won't ease,
A longing that lingers in my heart,
A hunger I'm unable to appease.
It pains me so to think how I
Was once as carefree as you.
To see how quick one's life can change,
When there is naught that one can do.
Sitting upon the sandy shores,
I gaze across the sea,
And come to realize that after all,
This is how it's meant to be.
Where I feel I must now go,
No provisions need I take.
I am my own map on this quest,
To find where I made my mistake.
Through it all no regrets have I,
The choices that we together made.
My only remaining wish I hold,
Is that I could have stayed.
Yet as I look onward to the sea,
There lies no doubt in my mind,
That somewhere across that distant horizon,
Lies solace for me to find.
Rest assured, my dear companion,
That as stand upon the ship's mast,
Though I've begun another journey,
Our friendship will forever last.
