Names Don't Define Who We Are

Doug had witnessed what happened at the pep rally. How Chad had assisted Audrey's attempt to humiliate Ben but ended up humiliating Evie instead. He saw her leave and quickly handed his drum to his fellow band mate before running after her.

He searched for a while and eventually found her sitting on the stand of the king's statue, gazing at her reflection within her magic mirror shard,

"Evie… I'm so sorry. I just saw what happened. Don't worry about Chad. He's just a jerk" he said trying to cheer her up but she continued to look at her reflection sadly,

"But he's a prince" she said more to herself. She was so confused and Doug looked at her sympathetically before sitting down next to her,

"Just because his father's charming doesn't mean he's going to take after him" he said gently,

"He's a fool if he can't see how….. How great and beautiful you are" he said as the tips of his ears turned pink but Evie sighed sadly,

"I can't even bring myself to ask my mirror who the fairest in the land is" she said quietly,

"I'm too scared" she admitted and Doug hesitantly placed his hand over hers gently,

"Maybe you don't need a mirror to tell you" he said gently,

"A mirror's reflection never lies Evie" he told her and Evie looked at him shocked before smiling softly and she placed a kiss against his cheek,

"Thank you Doug but I'm starting to think that I don't deserve a prince or a happy ending… After all I am named after the Evil queen and apparently in this world villains don't get happy endings" she said with a slight trace of sadness and Doug looked at her with a firm expression,

"Hey…. You may be named after your mother but that doesn't mean you're evil" he said firmly,

"I'm the son of a man named Dopey. Does that make me stupid?" he asked and she looked at him quickly,

"No you're the smartest guy I know" she said quickly and he smiled before nudging her shoulder teasingly,

"Exactly….. Names don't define who we are Evie" he finished gently and she smiled softly before resting her head against his shoulder,

"Thanks Doug….. You're the best" she said softly
