"What are you doing?"
"I'm watching, go back inside Jim, I'll be in soon."
"It's five in the morning Chief, you should be sleeping."
I'll sleep when I'm dead, he thought, "I just want to see the sun
rise man, not sure how many more times I'll get the chance."
"Blair, this is bad, I know it's bad, but shit Chief, you know as
well as I do that you'll…."
"Don't patronise me Jim, I have maybe another six weeks to enjoy
this, so I'm going too."
"This wasn't a death sentence Sandburg."
"Right!"
"You're going blind Blair and I'm damn sorry, I wish there was
something, anything I could do, but don't turn this into the end
Blair, you still have a whole lifetime ahead of you. There are
people a lot worse off!"
"Than why don't you go and cheer them up man, 'cos I just want to be
left alone with one of the last sunrises I'll ever see."
"Fine!"
Blair breathed the cold air in than as he breathed out again along
with it went a deep sigh. Softly he spoke, "I know it's not the end
Jim, but please just let me have these last few moments, man. Don't
make me give my sight up before I really have to."
Jim frowned, he wasn't doing that he was, shit, "You're right, I'm
sorry, I just…It's cold Chief, I don't want you to catch a cold."
For the first time that morning Blair turned to face Jim, a smile on
his lips. "I won't," and then turned his face back the horizon
seeing the first specks of the new sun he continued, "See, it's all
ready starting to warm up."
