Her entry to the world began with a crash of lightning. The very air was charged with magic when the first breath and cry of Ruby Gem Griffin was released into the universe. Her mother, the exiled queen of the fairy realm, knew as she gazed upon her newborn daughter that the prophecy was now set in motion. Because of this, her infant was in extreme danger. She had to find help, and fast. As she cast a circle of protection around the copse of trees where they hid, the clamor of the demon army charged with finding them grew ever closer. "My Lady!" cried Morgana, the queen's most trusted companion. "We must leave this place. You are in a weakened state and the child must be hidden quickly." Queen Idis knew that her circle would only hold for a short time. "Take my Ruby to Albus Dumbledore. I will fend off these demons and meet you at the castle Hogwarts". "I cannot leave you!" protested Morgana. The queen rebuked, "You have always been a loyal friend, now is not the time to question my wisdom! Go now and await my arrival, I shall not be far behind!" With another flash of lightning and a cloud of smoke, Morgana and Ruby were gone, leaving the Queen to face the demons alone. With a heavy heart, Idis set to the task of defending herself, knowing that if she failed, her daughter would be doomed.
The stench of evil was rank in the air as the queen caught sight of the demonic force bent on her destruction. Their number was simply too great to fight directly. Her best defense would have to be an exceptional illusion taught to her by, of all things, a renegade demon. She murmured thanks to Inuyasha and her lucky stars as, without a sound, she slipped behind the trees in search of the nearby riverbank. The spell itself would require the remainder of her strength, so there was no room for error. With a quick chant and a wave of her wand, the fairy queen transformed herself to appear as a Kappa, and immersed herself in the cold shelter of the river. She managed her escape not a moment too soon as the encroaching force of evil sprang into view, the entire forest seeming to shudder with violent unearthly rage. Demons, goblins, dementors and some that seemed human clambered up the hill to the riverbank, as if guided by her scent. As the foul pursuers came ever closer, Idis realized that she must be seen in order to throw evil off her trail. She swam to the other side and revealed herself, shouting across in the gurgling tongue of the water demons, "How dare you disturb my rest!" Her indignation was just convincing enough for the demons to pay her no mind and continue their search downstream. With her scales glimmering in tandem with the lightning flashing across the sky, she loped into the trees to hide just as her charm broke. She was safe, if only for the moment.
