Just a one-shot thing I suddenly felt like writing... don't quite know why, but I hope you enjoy it, although it is quite depressing... haha :) and sorry it's so short.
"Connor!" Abby screamed as a Spinosaurus angrily swiped its claw against Connor's flesh, sending him flying against a tree in the forest. It was just them, there in the Cretaceous… alone and fighting a Spinosaurus… and losing.
Abby grabbed a large stick, distracting the creature from a wounded Connor. "Hey! Over here!" she yelled, throwing the stick at its large head. It roared angrily in reply, charging for her. "Shit," she cursed under her breath. She ran to the nearest tree and climbed it as fast as she could, and only by sheer luck did she make it before the creature arrived there.
It clawed and bit against the tree, trying to get at her, unsuccessfully. She was more than lucky when it got tired and left, as pissed off as it could be. And, even luckier that it didn't go back for Connor, but went for another creature it'd spotted in the distance.
Abby quickly slid down the tree, touching the forest floor that had become so familiar to her in the last 6 months that they'd been stuck there. She ran as fast as she possibly could over to Connor's limp body. "Connor!" she yelled in a panic, reaching him. "Connor?" She shook his battered body; blood was running from his mouth and dripping from the huge gash in his chest. Her heart was thudding out of her chest as she realized how bad he was wounded.
Connor opened his eyes weakly. "Connor." She smiled slightly at him. "Are you okay?" It was a stupid question… of course he wasn't okay.
"Abby," he rasped, painfully. He coughed, blood coming out of his mouth.
"Oh, Connor!" she cried, tears starting to well in her eyes. "No… don't do this to me! You stay here, do you understand? You don't leave me, Connor!" she yelled at him as he leaned ever so weakly against the tree.
"Abby…" He shakily lifted his hand to her face; they'd grown so close in the past 6 months together… he could feel it in his body that this was it… he couldn't make it through this. Too much movement would paralyze him, he knew. He could feel that he'd injured his spine when he hit the tree, and he was steadily losing blood. "I can't…" he could barely speak through the pain and blood. He couldn't stand looking at the mourning on her face. "I love you, Abs." he whispered, stroking his thumb across her cheek.
She cried hard, her heart tearing as she watched him die. "Connor," she choked out.
"Shh," he replied, feeling himself slip from conscience. "It's okay," he reassured.
"I love you, Connor… please, God, please don't leave me! I love you!"
"I'm so sorry, abs… I love you… take care… of…. Sid and Nancy… and Rex… when you get back… home" his voice was no more than a whisper, and she didn't catch the last sentence, but she thought she heard something about Danny and the ARC.
"Dammit, Connor! Don't do this!" she yelled… there was no way this could be happening.
"I… love you… Abby…" His hand slid slowly from her face and dropped to the forest floor and his head limped to the side.
She grabbed his head, frantically. "Connor? CONNOR!" she shook him, but he was gone. "No!" she broke down, tears streaming down her cheeks. She grabbed Connor's lifeless body; holding him in her arms, crying… wishing her death would follow his… "I love you…" she whispered, and continued this; over and over again… it was the only thing she could do, and the only thing she could think.
She wanted to die… there was nothing left to live for… she could only sit here and die, holding him in her arms… waiting for the relief of death… she needed to die…
