The Diary of Elizabeth Moore
April 5, 1764
Dear Diary,
Today was my birthday, I am now five years of age. Pa says that the Government
has passed a new law called the Sugar Act. Pa says that they will be taxing the
people for British goods. Ma loves British goods. I wonder how it will affect her?
All I received was a new doll. Although it is not much, I am grateful. I hope the
Government doesn't go too far, if they do no one will like them. So God, please tell
them not to go to far.
