Broken Hearts:

I own nothing, this was a prompt from quinn-berrys on tumblr

It was rainy day in Storybrooke, and the most hated man in town sat upon his bed, with the love of his life laying down, her head in his lap. It was on days like this that the pair sat in silence and watched the rain that fell down, hitting the window pain like bullets. The curse was not broken, not yet, but they both remembered. Remembering was the worst curse, and Regina made sure that Belle remembered him.

The two were so similar, both broken by other people's cruelty. A bum leg was nothing compared to the loss of a heart though. She never told him, but he knew. The scar on her chest her saw last night when the pair had made love told him for her. Mr. Gold's hands rested on her shoulder and in her hair, a reminder that he was there and we would protect her as best he could.

He was a coward, and he cursed himself for it. It was times like this that he needed to be brave for his Belle, his broken beauty. The only light in the room was bounced off of the diamond ring she wore around her neck upon the ceiling. The had been engaged since Emma came to town and both played their part in public, doing their best to keep it a secret from the others. It was only a matter of time before Belle's face would contort in pain as Madame Mayor squeezed the young woman's heart to the brink of ashes, stopping before the girl would die. The most powerful man in both realms sobbed when he was alone, cursing Regina, and himself for Belle's fate.

Sapphire eyes starred into chocolate ones, and for a moment there was bliss. Belle parted her lips and sat up just enough so that when Rumplestiltskin bent over, he could kiss her. As they kissed, he held onto her tightly. Before the kiss cold deepen, Belle could feel Regina squeeze her heart, and stared at her beloved in shock as his lips remained upon hers, as if he was trying to suck the pain away from her and take it for himself. The rain only got louder, as the pair remained lip locked, clinging to each other.

When the pain ended, Belle shifted to lay in his bed next to him, her arms around his neck as she sobbed into his chest. Mr. Gold her her close and let her sob, vowing vengeance for her once Emma broke the curse, once he could have magic again, and protect her better than he had here or back home. "One day my love, we will have our happy ending." he whispered into her ear.

Belle broke from him and kissed his nose, "and we will find your son, but we have to wait for the savior, promise me Rum, promise me Emma will save us."

Mr. Gold smiled sadly, not knowing how much longer Belle would live but he still nodded. "It's a deal." After he said that Belle smiled and closed her eyes.

"Good," she whispered. "Because the Rumplestiltskin I know never breaks a deal."

Mr. Gold's heart filled with guilt, "I only broke one, and I intend to keep it that way." He fought a sob, for once the Regina was right, intention is everything
