I'm not exactly a fan of Father's Day and this unbetaed wangst is the result. I do not own Naruto.
Naruto Uzumaki couldn't help but sigh from his seat high atop the Hokage monument overlooking the village of Konoha. He had been watching its inhabitants for over an hour now; the hustle and bustle of families enjoying their holiday together, while others busied themselves remembering those that they had lost.
He didn't resent them, at least not anymore, but when the blond was honest with himself even he had to admit; he still envied them. He didn't really know anything about his parents, save that they were dead, so occasions such as Father's Day were highly annoying at best. At worst, well, he tried not to let things head down that road anymore.
It was certainly easier now that he had finally graduated from the Academy and joined Team Seven. His friends and teachers had become a source of acceptance and comfort, something he cherished deeply and had sworn above all else to protect.
Except...except that they were all down in the village right now, spending time with their families and with each other. And while he may have won the younger generation over, there had been no such progress with their parents. The majority of the villagers still hated and reviled him, nor did they attempt to make any secret of it.
No, on days like this, he was all alone again.
Suddenly, Naruto became aware of movement behind him and spun around wildly, wondering why anyone else would possibly be up here on a day like today. To his surprise, the intruder was none other than his teammate, Sasuke Uchiha.
"Sasuke, what are you—" he started to ask as Sasuke drew close.
"Just shut up, idiot." Sasuke ordered gruffly and moved to sit down next to the blond.
Naruto's first instinct was to make some sort of obnoxious reply, but something held him back. Sasuke was clearly here for a reason, however, just what that reason was the younger shinobi could only imagine.
Maybe the other boy was feeling lonely? Sasuke's circumstances were quite similar to his own, after all. Even the legendary ice-prince of Konoha had to have feelings and bad days too, right?
He was about to give up and simply ask what the deal was when Sasuke's lithe arm wrapped around his shoulders and pulled him in close, forcing his head onto the taller boy's shoulder. He would have protested, but Sasuke's soft, almost pleading voice stopped him.
"Lets just stay like this for awhile, okay Naruto?"
Naruto considered the situation. It felt strange to be held in such a manner, especially by Sasuke of all people, but...he didn't hate it. On the contrary, it was actually kind of nice to know someone cared at a time like this. Even if it was somewhat abrupt and confusing, in his own weird way Sasuke was still taking the time to try and comfort him; the least he could do was reciprocate.
Naruto wrapped his arms around Sasuke's waist, returning the warm embrace, and nodded against his shoulder. "Alright, Sasuke. We'll stay as long as you need," he whispered gently.
A light squeeze on the shoulder was the only reply Sasuke gave.
It was all the answer Naruto needed.
Random ending is random. Comments and criticisms appreciated.
