"What were you thinking?"

Bakura Ryou winces, looking down at the bandage wrapped tightly around his hand. The wound underneath the gauze throbs painfully, and he's positively sure that it'll scar.

But the emotions in her voice hurt more than he can ever imagine.

He can sense a multitude of glares being sent in his direction. He's almost too afraid to look up and face them. Almost.

Despite his fear, he forces his eyes upwards; he is no stranger to scorn. He is no stranger to hatred and fear and loathing. There is no point in running away from it now. He has screwed up once again, and this time, he's truly been caught.

His breath catches when he meets Mazaki Anzu's eyes.

He has never seen a glare like that before.

There isn't an ounce of hostility in those eyes.

Instead, her eyes are filled with something that he can't quite seem to place. An expression that he hasn't seen in a very long time.

Finally, he finds a name for it.

It is anxiety. No, it's intense, furious concern.

He blinks in surprise, looking around him. Everyone is staring at him, all of their expressions mirroring Anzu's. They were all worried, evidently.

Ryou examines his hands again, searching for something to say.

"I had to…" He murmurs softly, his voice barely discernible.

Everyone present looks at him in disbelief. He averts his eyes, refusing to further explain his reasoning.

Luckily, no one broaches the subject after that.

In truth, this is only partially the reason for his supposedly 'selfless' act.

There are two other reasons.

The first one is that he feels as though he needs to repent for his sins. He has destroyed too many lives, hurt too many innocent people. For that, he deserves to die.

The second reason is because of his own failures. He simply sat there helplessly as his beautiful little sister bled out before him. She was a sweet, wonderful person; a child that could've helped change the world for the better. And she's dead.

He's failed her, and she's dead.

It should be him in that coffin.

Which is why, in his opinion, he's the perfect human sacrifice.

I kinda like this one... Alright, I'm gonna go work on a few more drabbles, and then I'll work on Chasing Shadows... I promise... :P

Haha, this drabble challenge is a lot of work, and I'm a bit behind on my drabbles... get you ass in gear, Star !

Oh, and by the way, this is set immediately after Ryou Bakura risks his life in the Monster World game. There were some misconceptions. :)
