I love you!

Three simple words. That was what was causing Blaine to panic and reconsider his entire self. He'd been doing his part as a good son, trying to be the son his father would want. A straight one. So he'd used his charm to get one of his friends to go out with him. A nice brunette girl who had hit puberty just a bit later than everyone else and who still hadn't come into her full, womanly form yet.

Blaine had gone out with her on what they had called dates. It was basically the same things they did before their relationship, only with handholding and a lot more light-hearted teasing to go along with it, in addition to some not so lighthearted teasing from jealous classmates. Their friendship had been strong, and he had hoped that, like in so many of the romantic movies he pretended not to like, it would grow into love.

But this…Even the idea of it, that the girl on her computer a neighborhood away was in love with him, made him feel…

Bad.

He knew he shouldn't feel this way. He should be happy his girlfriend loved him—and just the word girlfriend shouldn't sound so wrong in his mind. It should be easy to type it back, to end their nightly chat on a happy note. Yet he couldn't even find it in himself to sugarcoat it. To use words with more ambiguous meanings, like "I care about you" or "I can't stand another day without you". Both, Blaine knew, were statements people in love would say, but neither of them actually stated that the speaker was in love.

And Blaine was definitely not in love with her.

And Blaine really needed to stop wishing that her brother was the one who felt that way.

I've really got to get to sleep or I'm going to fall asleep in class! See you then. :)

Blaine Anderson did not like girls.

When he got to school the next day, all the girls who hung around his girlfriend—now obviously ex-girlfriend, or maybe just ex-friend—were waiting at the front doors. He was informed in no polite terms about the break up of his relationship that had happened without his knowledge, because he hadn't said "I love you" back. They yelled curses, called him a fag, and promised to get revenge if he ever hurt her again.

Fat chance. It's pretty hard to hurt someone when their posse won't let you get near them.

Blaine kept his chin up, though. One failed relationship, if you could even call it that, didn't make him gay.

The visit from her brother, in which he told Blaine that his sister was an idiot for letting a nice guy like him get away….

That did. And maybe that was okay.
