The Unknown Raven(set in the AC3 storyline) By Kitsune D'gon

Disclaimer: (I guess I put the disclaimer here...) I do not own Armored Core.

Discalimer #2: This is my first story...

"Damn," he swore.

His last energy reserves gave out just before he could fire his gun. The vast trails of MT's with a few AC's were silently weeping their last pathetic energy away. The whole reason for his mission was sitting right in front of him . It could do nothing directly to stop him, but was forced to call its minions to do its work. Finally, it spoke:

"You won't do this you know."

"I've waited all my life for this moment, do you think I will stop now?"

"Your AC is too badly damaged to fight off anything. The MT's will be here long before you can get away."

10 percent recovered. His radar wasn't picking up any incoming units, yet. He could not, would not, fail. All of humanity was depending upon him to destroy it. Funny. Mankind originally built it, a computer, a computer was the one running their lives. That they built.

"Why not just go back?" it asked, "surely that is better than dying."

"Better to die on your feet, then live on your knees," he quoted.

40 percent recovered. He didn't know why but he suddenly thought through his life. All the days he had hoped to be a pilot. All the training, the missions. He felt a pang of sadness as he realized that he should have done more.

"What will happen to the common people after I am gone?" it questioned him.

Stow your false sympathy, he thought. "Whatever it is at least they will have a choice."

"But can mankind afford to make that choice?"

He had no answer for that. After a brief silence it answered itself.

"Neither of us will exist to see that, will we?"

70 percent. He thought of all the people he had met. Especially of one woman. He had never had the courage to speak to her. He wondered if she would even notice that he was gone.

"Here comes the guard units." it paused. "It's not to late to leave now."

"It was when I accepted the mission."

90 percent. Maybe this was his sole purpose in life, to destroy it. His radar lit up to life as hundreds of MT units began to move towards their master.

"Why are you doing this?"

"Because no one else will."

100 percent. He brought his targeting cursors over it. Time seemed to stretch out. Every second seemed to be as long as a decade. He was going to miss her...

He pulled the trigger.

All that was left of it and his AC were two emblems, a raven and a dove. Side-by-side for all eternity.
