"Be back by dusk K.K." My mother called into the afternoon air for I was already gone

Racing past Blue Bar, and up the stairs to the grand Romana Mansion, hopeful to play with my best friend, Lumina.

I burst through the fancy oak double doors and stomped up the stairs to her room.

"Hey Lumina, wanna go and play-" I cut off looking at her with awe.

I found her there with her grandmother combing her long straight brunette locks. She had a poofy pink dress with lace running on her sleeves. I felt out of place, looking at my overalls with holes in the knees. My out of control red curls tangled to look like I just had woken from a sleep. Her grandmother tied a silk bow on top of Lumina head which completed the look.

"Oh hello, Kareena." Lumina said in her fancy voice. It was how she would speak in front of her grandmother. "Are you feeling well?" She said again.

"I'm great! You really look pretty Lumina," I said as I inched closer and reaching to feel her dress. It was pure velvet and lace. It felt like a cloud. Lumina smiled as I admired it.

"Kareena, do not touch it with your dirty hands. It is nice and clean, do not mess it up." Lumina's grandmother snapped.

I pulled away with a quick jerk of my arm and Lumina's smile left her face. I looked down and put my hands together behind my back, silently apologizing.

"We can play tomorrow." Lumina said harshly looking blankly in my eyes.

I nodded and turned to leave. I shut the door as quietly as I could and tip toed down the grand staircase. I made it outside the mansion and sat on the edge of the fountain.

The cool blue water made it seem so peaceful and then I saw my reflection. I wrinkled my nose in disgust.

I can never live up to Lumina's standard of a friend. She is like a princess and I am just her maid. I will never be pretty and have beautiful dresses.

A tear sneaked down my cheek and fell in the water. The water rippled for a moment and I saw a figure form in the reflection over my shoulder.

I paused for a moment and slowly turned around.

"Can you stop moping please. My mother is trying to study." A girl with perfect blonde curls dressed in an oversized black cloak.

"Sorry, I-I didn't realize." I stuttered, "Who are you anyway?"

"Oh um. Er... I'm uhh.." She started.

"Don't worry. You don't have to tell me if you want to." I said smiling cheerfully completely forgetting Lumina.

"Just call me the Witch Princess for now." She said smiling back slowly closing her amber eyes.

She started mumbling and her eyes glowed for a few moments. My mind went blank and blacked out.

I flickered my eyelids and the sky had turned dark. Sitting up made me feel like I was hit by a horse. I rubbed my eyes and slowly standing up only to fall on the hard cobblestones again. I sat up and looked around.

I saw my house in front of me and the town was dim. Only the street lamps were lit and the Witch Princess was nowhere to be seen. Attempting to at least take a few short steps to my door, I stood again. My knees buckled and pain struck my back and legs. I powered through to knock on my door. Hoping my mother would rush. The wind was chilled and a light drizzle was coming from the sky. The lights in my house flickered on and I was greeted by my mother.

She cupped her hands to her mouth and silently shrieked, "Where have you been K.K.! Wha-What happened to you!"

Shortly after looking me from my toes to my nose, she hugged me and carried me inside.

Exhausted, I blacked out again.
