Hi guys, I'm here with a new story for you. Instead of putting this in my one-shot collection All Sorts, I've put a lot of thought into this, and by that I mean no thought has been put into this…sorry for stupid joke there. You got to make yourself laugh once in a while, right? Anyway, after reading a Guest's review, I figured it might be better if I give this a story in its entirety instead of it being lost through the mountain of one-shots that are still going on, and probably will go one for…however long I want to continue to write them.
Enjoy the first chapter, AU, rated for reasons and…enjoy.
Star Butterfly frowned and she sat down in front of a vanity mirror as she ran a brush through her hair, "Hey Star," she looked up and saw her friends Jackie Thomas and Janna Ordonia standing behind her, "Everything okay?"
"No…just a bunch of drunks and dealers out there…damn bastards," Star sighed and shook her head, "But whatever, the pay is good,"
"Yeah, you're right about that," Janna smirked and sat down next to her, "Anyway, we better get out there again before Tom has our heads," Star frowned and nodded as she finished running the brush through her hair and she and Janna stood up and the three women turned and walked away.
Star looked around as strobe lights flashed and loud music filled the air. Spotting a lone stranger sitting in a booth in the far corner, she slightly smiled as she walked up to the stranger with a slight sway in her hips. Sitting across from the stranger, the stranger looked up and Star's blue eyes met with his brown ones, "Hey handsome," Star licked her lips, "What's a stranger like you sitting in a place like this?"
"I should ask you that," Star frowned at the cold tone in the stranger's voice, "You shouldn't be working in a place like this. Terrible things happen in places like this,"
"Heh, preaching to the choir…my parents all but disowned my after I told them what I was doing for a living, and now they won't even talk to me," Star mumbled under her breath and the stranger frowned, "But hey, I'm being rude. How about a drink, slick? And maybe a little dance,"
Star stood up and walked over to the stranger, sitting on his lap. The stranger looked away and Star pouted, "Oh, what's wrong, baby? Don't tell me you swing for the other team?"
The stranger held out a brass badge and Star's eyes widened, "My name is Marco Diaz. I'm a detective and I'm here looking for notorious drug dealer Toffee Baxter," Marco held out a picture of a pale skin man and Star looked down at it in confusion, "I've gotten a tip that he comes here on a weekly basis. Have you seen him?" Star frowned and looked away, "Miss, if you know him, and where I can find him, it'll be best if you tell me unless you want to spend the night in a holding cell."
"Yeah…I know him…we all do, but since he's a paying costumer, we didn't think about calling the police," Marco arched a brow and Star sighed as she stood up, "My ex-boyfriend, now boss, Tom Lucitor always told us if they have money, don't ask questions." She looked up and spotted a group of people enter the facility, "Speaking of Baxter, here he comes," Marco looked back and narrowed his eyes at the pale man, "Listen…I'm not one for helping cops, but I can't stand the old bastard. He's always groping the girls and he tries to take us home with him…disgusting,"
"So I'm going to bring him in for drug charges and attempted rape…is there nothing this sick bastard won't do?" Marco sighed before standing up, "Listen Miss-"
"Butterfly…Star Butterfly,"
"Butterfly…you better leave. I don't want any casualties on my account." Star frowned and Marco took a deep breath, "Look…just go," before Star could argue, Marco turned and ran towards the group of people.
Star looked up and frowned as watched the detective approach the group, "Toffee Baxter," the pale man looked up as Marco reached in his pocket and pulled out a pair of handcuffs and the man's eyes widened, "I'd like to have a word with you,"
Before the man could reply, the man on his right picked up a glass and splashed the contents in Marco's face, allowing the pale man to stand and run towards the exit. Marco wiped the alcohol from his face before grabbing the man by the wrist and pinned him to the table, "And what's your name, friend?"
"Kiss my ass,"
"Well, I hate to break it to you, but you just assaulted a police officer. I have a few questions for you," Marco looked up and growled as he watched the door open and quickly close, "Son of a bitch!" Marco pressed his forearm down on the man's neck and hissed as he looked down with narrowed eyes and he began putting the handcuffs around his wrists, "You have the right to remain silent, if you choose to give up that right, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have a right to an attorney, if you cannot afford one, one will be provided for you with no charge to you. Do you understand-"
"Yeah, I understand my rights," the man growled as Marco pulled him by the back of the shirt, "You better get me a lawyer when we get to the station. I'm broke, buddy,"
"Yeah, yeah, and you smell like a brewery…how the hell do you smell like that after just walking into a place like this?" Marco growled and led the man through the crowd of patrons, Star following him.
Marco put the man in the back of his car before slamming the door, "Detective," he looked back and saw Star running towards him, "Listen…Toffee knows you're after him now. He may not come back for some time, but if he does-"
"I'm going to catch him," Marco looked up and spotted a figure glaring down at them from the second story. He sighed and shook his head before digging into his pocket and pulled out some money, "Now let's see here…twenty, forty…here's fifty two dollars," he handed Star the money and Star looked down with wide eyes, "You pointed Toffee out for me when he got here…get yourself something to eat, or something."
Star hesitantly took the money and slightly nodded, "Thank you detective,"
"Please, call me Marco," Star nodded and Marco looked at the man in the back of his car and shook his head, "I'd hate to leave you in a place like this, but I need to get these joker to the precinct and see how loyal he is to Baxter," Star nodded and Marco handed her a card, "And my card…just in case your boss gives you a hard time,"
Star looked at him in confusion before looking up and spotted the figure step away from the window, "Son of a…thanks again, Marco," Marco nodded and watched as Star turned and walked back towards the club.
Seeing her walk through the door, he chuckled and shook his head before looking back at the passenger sitting in the back of his car and knocked on the window, catching the man's attention, "You better be ready to talk to me." He smirked and walked around and climbed into the driver's side before closing the door and began driving away.
Moving fast? Probably, but this is the first chapter and I needed a quick pacing chapter for to set the feel for the story. This is rated for reasons. As always enjoy everyone and please let me know what you all think.
